Actor Brittany Snow has opened up about the 'unspoken rule' in Hollywood when it comes to female-led sex scenes.

Films throughout history have often portrayed intimate scenes, and there's plenty of big actors out there who you might not have realised have shed their clothes on screen, including the likes of Robert Pattinson and Aubrey Plaza.

In recent years, things seem to have only gotten racier, with Emma Thompson baring it all in Good Luck to You, Leo Grande, while Nicole Kidman literally had to stop filming Babygirl because she 'didn't want to orgasm anymore'.

It's almost inevitable that films these days will often have an attractive woman wearing very little on screen, and although we have started to see more men take on that role, 39-year-old Snow has been critical of Hollywood's bias towards younger women in sex scenes.

Speaking on the Las Culturistas podcast, the Pitch Perfect star said: “Hollywood wants to kind of disregard women after the age of 32 for sex scenes, specifically nudity and things that are sort of like women coming into their own sexual, like, prowess.

“I think that this was just like, 'No, we’re going to still have this be very prevalent in a woman’s life, even after she’s of a Hollywood age'."

The term intimacy coordinator is also thrown around far more than it used to be, but Snow has also been critical of how she doesn't always feel appreciated when filming sex scenes with men.

In her latest series, The Hunting Wives, she has a relationship with Swedish actor Malin Akerman on screen, and things were a lot more mutually respectful between the two stars.

Snow told SELF Magazine: “I’ve found a lot of men in sex scenes are really, really focused on themselves and how they look and if their abs are looking great and not necessarily thinking about your experience.

“And with Malin, it was so collaborative in terms of like, ‘Are you OK? Do you want me to do this? Is this OK if I put my hand here?’ Just so much care was taken, which felt really nice.”

Part of this, she argued, was because of the understanding of their characters, and that they wanted to both be powerful women in that moment.

Snow told the podcast: “I do think from the very beginning, there was a very clear understanding of what we were making in terms of the women that were on the show, what kind of women we were going to be - that were not 20 years old and were having these sex scenes.

“We’re in our late 30s, 40s, and we’re going to be powerful, and this is for the woman gaze, and we’re going to go for it.

“That was never a question. We were never shy about, ‘Oh, I wonder if this is going to be too much.’”

The actor added: “We knew going into it, and we signed up for that. And I think that that’s something that we’re proud of.”
