Honestly, what’s a good friendship without a bit of banter? You know, taking the p**s out of each other here and there is what keeps many of our group chats flowing.
Even when you make a bit of a harsh dig it doesn’t matter, you all know the love is there.
Except maybe not when it’s delivered by Reese Witherspoon it seems. The Legally Blonde star previously admitted that things went south for one of her celebrity friendships after she delivered a bit of a roast during an awards show.
Apparently, she thought the vibe of the event was this kind of thing, you know, fun and a bit silly. Who doesn’t prefer awards ceremonies when there’s the jokes and jabs amid the film winners?

Well, this one apparently as Witherspoon said it was more of a ‘classy’ affair.
The actor was doing press alongside Will Ferrell for their 2025 comedy, You’re Cordially Invited, when she explained she had been asked to speak at an event in her pal’s honour.
“So this friend of mine, who I didn't really know that well, but she was a very serious, proper actress, she asked me to give her an award,” she explained to PEOPLE.
With the moment ‘literally haunting’ her, Witherspoon had never been to this particular ceremony before and got the wrong end of the stick.
“So I got up and roasted her,” she said and referenced a portion of her speech: “I was like, ‘Remember the time we got laser hair removal?’ I'm kidding. I'm still embarrassed about it.”
However, it was apparently more of a ‘British’ and ‘elegant’ kind of vibe, rather than the place to be cracking cringe jokes about your mate.
And while she didn’t say who the roasting victim was, internet sleuths reckon it was a star whose name rhymes with Wate Kinslet potentially at a BAFTA event back in the 00s. Although, a source said Witherspoon wasn’t referring to the Titanic star.
Apparently after that hiccup though, the actor stopped speaking to Witherspoon because it just ‘wasn’t good’.
“I’m not even kidding – we’re not friends anymore, I think she doesn’t like me anymore,” she added.
“I thought it was so funny and it was just, I had the wrong audience. It was pretty bad.
“Yeah, not even kidding, she doesn’t talk to me anymore. Oh well.”
I mean, either way, it doesn’t seem like Witherspoon has lost much sleep over the cringe-worthy moment.
