Rihanna slammed for '£5 million' performance before billionaire bride and groom's wedding

Rihanna slammed for '£5 million' performance before billionaire bride and groom's wedding

Rihanna has rarely performed live in recent years but took this huge pay day

If someone’s paying out a whopping £5million on a performance for a big wedding bash, then I’m expecting everything.

I want dancers, maybe some fire, perhaps some kind of high-adrenaline trick - and throw in half of Cirque du Soleil too. Or, just have Rihanna to be fair.

And that’s exactly what the son of India’s richest man had for his pre-wedding party.

Anant Ambani, son of Mukesh Ambani, is marrying his long-time girlfriend Radhika Merchant, so naturally, the family are throwing a three-day party this weekend.

This pre-wedding do has over 1,000 invitees, from the likes of Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg to Ivanka Trump.

Kicking off yesterday (1 March), MailOnline reports the family paid £5m for a rare Rihanna performance.

But while videos of her on the Indian stage make their way to social media, some fans have slammed her for doing the ‘bare minimum’.

One fan shared a clip of the singer performing her 2011 bop with Calvin Harris, ‘We Found Love’.

Fans joked in the replies: “She got that makeup coin. She doin this for change lol. Charity if you will.”

And another put: “Rent was due. She didn’t care."

Others decided Rihanna ‘does not like performing’ and ‘lacks energy’.

One even put: “Pls she don’t even remember what performing is like. She forgot she was a singer.” While another said: “Like did she even want to be there.”

However, some of her fans were eager to defend Rihanna, after one asked: “Why are y’all fuming in the comment section?”

Rihanna reportedly had a 19-song set-list for the wedding performance, including hits like ‘Rude Boy’, ‘Diamonds’, ‘Where Have You Been’ and ‘Umbrella’.

While speaking to the very VIP audience in India, the star said: “Thanks to the Ambani family, I'm here tonight... In honour of Anant and Radhika’s wedding... Thank you for having me here. May God bless your union. I wish you all the best. Congratulations.”

As fans will know, Rihanna isn’t often doing these performance gigs anymore, like, at all. The singer did the Super Bowl half-time last year, with the reveal that she was pregnant with her second child – a shock for those fans expecting her to announce a new album and tour.

That 2023 performance was Rihanna’s first live televised performance since the Grammys in 2018, having not done a concert tour since 2016. But for £5m and for the Ambani family, it seems she will still get her performer on.

LADbible has contacted Rihanna’s team for comments.
