Benny Blanco made a sad admission about his first time hanging out with Selena Gomez.
The 'Lose You to Love Me' singer first crossed paths with the record producer when she was just 16 years old, with the pair collaborating for the first time professionally in 2015.
However, it wasn't until 2023 that the two decided to embark on a romantic relationship, when the Only Murders in the Building star revealed on Instagram in December that she and Blanco had been dating in private for 'six months'.
The romance would go from strength to strength the following year, featuring dates at awards shows, a joint album and then a surprise proposal.

Gomez and Blanco then tied the knot in September 2025 and have been each other's 'happy ever after' since.

However, it doesn't appear to have been love at first sight for the couple, or at least on Blanco's side.
The pair got candid about their relationship during an interview with Jay Shetty on his podcast, On Purpose, with 37-year-old Blanco revealing that he'd actually tried to set up Gomez with one of his friends.
"I was talking to her and said, 'Oh my God, I have so many good single guy friends… We have dinners at the house all the time. You should come over sometime'," he recalled.
So why wasn't Blanco interested in dating the former Disney channel star himself?
Well, that was down to the universal feeling of self-doubt.
"I thought she hated me," he confessed. "Obviously, 99 percent of it was in my head."
Blanco also opened up on their first hangout, revealing that it wasn't planned to be a romantic one either.
"I wasn't even thinking about anything [romantically with Selena] and we're talking about our ideal date and this and that," he added.
Clearly Blanco's initial doubts weren't correct, given that the pair are now married and even reminiscing on the idea of sharing collaborative album I Said I Love You First to their future children.

Gomez has also opened up on how their relationship has changed her for the better, telling PEOPLE: "I’ve kind of been alone in the world. I was alone for five years before we got together, and I think that really helped me appreciate someone like Ben.
"He gets so weirded out by me saying this, but genuinely, 10 years ago, I wasn’t in a space in my life where I could have accepted the kind of patience, the kind of unconditional love that he gives me."
May this kind of love find us all.
