Tim Curry's cause of death confirmed as coronary artery disease
Tim Curry's cause of death has been revealed one week on from his passing at the age of 80.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show star died peacefully in his home on Tuesday 25 August, 14 years on from a stroke which limited his mobility.
Now People report that his cause of death has been officially confirmed as coronary artery disease, however the public health department’s document also listed the actor's stroke and kidney cancer as significant conditions that contributed to his death, but were not considered as the main underlying cause.
After suffering a major stroke in 2012, the Home Alone actor was wheelchair bound for the rest of his life, and he gave an update on his health back in September 2025.

He said: “I still can’t walk, which is why I’m in this silly chair, and that’s very limiting. So I won’t be singing and I won’t be dancing very soon. I still have real problems with my left leg."
The legendary performer also shared more details on how he actually suffered his stroke.
He added: “I was having a massage at the time and I didn’t even actually notice anything, but the guy who was doing the massage said, ‘I’m worried about you, I want to call an ambulance.’ And he did, and I said, ‘That’s so silly.’”
Curry passed away just before midnight last Tuesday, with his reps confirming his death in a statement.
Per the BBC, the statement read: "Across five decades, he moved fluidly between comedy, horror, drama, and music, delighting himself and his legion of fans with his countless dynamic personas."
They added: "Few actors can claim to have left as many distinct fingerprints on pop culture - and though he suffered a debilitating stroke in 2012, he continued adding to his achievements as an artist and, most recently, a writer.
"Though widely known for his inimitable, flamboyant characters and colourful stage performances, his greatest legacies to those who knew him were his curious, expansive mind and generous, gentle heart, both of which remained open and filled with anticipation until his final breath."
An icon of screen and stage, who will be survived by his legendary performances as Dr Frank-N-Furter and Pennywise the clown in Stephen King's IT, Curry will be fondly remembered by cinephiles across the world.
The actor never married and didn't have any children, but the outpouring of tributes in the week since his passing emphasises just how loved he was and the fulfilling life he lived.
