Cillian Murphy has revealed the Peaky Blinders movie script is ‘close’ to being done.

The 46-year-old actor recently sat down with Digital Spy to provide an update on the film adaptation of the popular BBC series, which is set to pick up where season six finished.

When asked if production would commence soon, he said: “Yes, I believe so. I’ve still not read it [the script] but that’s the plan, the plan is to make a film and to continue the story but in the cinematic world rather than on the television.

“The television part of the story is finished. If there’s more stories to tell, I’m there I just haven’t read it yet but it’s close apparently.”

Following the show’s 81-minute season finale back in April, fans have been anxiously anticipating the spin-off film, which is expected to go into production next year in Birmingham, England.

Last October, while speaking at the BFI London Film Festival, show creator Steven Knight confirmed that he was working on the script for the feature.

He added: “And that will probably be the sort of the end of the road for Peaky Blinders as we know it.”

While speaking with BBC Midlands Today last month, Knight said that a spin-off series was also on the horizon; however, he would not be involved.

Instead, he opted to ‘pass on the baton’.

He also told the outlet that the series would likely take place in the 1950s, with a new creative team at the helm.

Shortly after Peaky Blinders aired on BBC Two in 2013, it became a cultural phenomenon, amassed fans around the world and even picked up a few BAFTA awards on the way.

The series followed the Peaky Blinders gang, loosely based on a real urban youth gang of the same name who were active in Birmingham in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The characters are also partially based on Knight’s Irish-Romani family, who would frequently tell a young Knight about the stories of the Peaky Blinders and the life of crime they led, according to No Film School.

If you’re in desperate need of a refresher ahead of the film’s release, you can currently binge all seasons of Peaky Blinders on Netflix.
