Ed Sheeran is about to drop a new album, but that is not all he's dropping.

The British pop star has a second treat in store for fans that can be snapped up days before his new album, Subtract, hits the shelves on May 5.

Yep, we're getting an Ed Sheeran docuseries that will follow him throughout his entire maths era.

Ed Sheeran: The Sum Of It All will be available for worldwide release on Disney+ from May 3.

That's a whole two days before fans can finally get their mits on his next, highly-anticipated album that was 10 years in the making.

The four-part special will also feature interviews with Sheeran's wife Cherry Seaborn as well as other loved ones.

It'll also include performance footage and some previously unseen clips from his personal archives.

Cue the 'oohs' and 'ahhs' at that little tidbit.

Sheeran revealed why he has decided now is the time to open up his usually private life to the public.

"I’ve always been very guarded in my personal and private life; the only documentary I’ve ever made has been one that focused on my songwriting," he said in an online statement.

"Disney approached me to make a four-part documentary, and it felt like the right time to open the door and let people in. I hope people enjoy it."

The four episodes are titled Love, Loss, Focus, and Balance.

The first trailer features exclusive footage of Sheeran's teen years and how he and his late pal Jamal Edwards weaponised the internet in order to launch his career.

It also tells the sweet love story between him and his childhood sweetheart turned wife.

It'll delve into Cherry's 'life-altering news', which we recently found out was her tumour diagnosis while she was pregnant with their second child, Jupiter.

But it won't stop there.

The docuseries will shine a spotlight on his close network of childhood friends and how the star struggled after in the wake of Edwards' shock death.

It'll also cover how the 32-year-old hitmaker finds a way to cope with superstardom, a young family, mates, and everything else life throws at you.

Ben Turner and Ben Winston of production house Fulwell 73 said: "Everyone in the world knows and loves Ed Sheeran’s songs, as he has been the soundtrack to so many moments of our lives.

"But this series of films shows the true man behind the hits, showing Ed in an entirely different way after a tumultuous year personally and professionally.

"This four-part series has been an honour for us to make."
