Following the surprise news that Elon Musk and Grimes have recently welcomed a second child, a daughter, via surrogate in December, fans of the pair are wondering what the meaning is behind their baby’s unique name.
Their first baby boy was born in May 2020 and was called 'X Æ A-12', which she pronounces 'X A.I. Archangel,' or ‘X’ for short.
The singer, born Claire Elise Boucher, reportedly split from the Tesla founder less than six months ago, and has since told Vanity Fair about their new baby girl, including her name: Exa Dark Sideræl Musk.

According to Vanity Fair, Elon Musk and Grimes’ new baby is named after the supercomputing term 'exaFLOPS', which is the ability to perform 1 quintillion floating-point operations per second.

Dark refers to “the unknown”, which Grimes went on to explain that “people fear it but truly it’s the absence of photons. Dark matter is the beautiful mystery of our universe.”
Meanwhile, Sideræl, which is pronounced “sigh-deer-ee-el”, is a “more eleven” spelling of the celestial term ‘sidereal’. The singer describes this as the “true time of the universe, star time, deep space-time, not our relative earth time.”
The mother of two also noted that the name choice also refers to her favourite Lord of the Rings character, Galadriel, who she explained “chooses to abdicate the ring”.
The pair will otherwise, call their daughter by Y for short, and want to share “at least three or four” children together one day, according to the cover story.
