After plenty of seasons on our tellies, you'd think the public interest in a show like Big Brother would have died off.

Well, no.

According to TV Blackbox, the show is getting rebooted for next year and will again be produced by Endemol Shine Australia.

Channel 10

The entertainment site claims a casting process will get underway shortly to find the contestants that will no doubt befriend each other, maybe fall in love with each other and most probably hate each other by the time the show is through.

Endomol Shine chief creative officer Peter Salmon told Deadline: "It's rare in most big territories that there isn't a conversation about it in some shape or form every year.

"We're close in a couple of interesting territories to further reboot, but I don't want to get ahead of ourselves. There are constant conversations and exchanges of idea where we're thinking what's next."

The idea to reboot the show doesn't really have the blessing of OG host Gretel Killeen, who thinks people are too fame hungry these days. But she conceded that it could work under the right circumstances.

She was asked about a potential reboot on the Kyle and Jackie O Show, adding: "I think the essence of Big Brother is brilliant because when we first started that show it was about just watching humans interact without interference, just seeing what humans do.

"It wasn't 'Who's going to win?' It was: Let's just see what relationships form and how people pass their time and converse."

"I think watching ourselves is something we could actually learn from now. I think this is a time of analysis and introspection and redefining our values, so I think it would be a hoot.

"Reality TV can attract a different kind of person now who wants to be famous, so perhaps that level of purity, maybe the time has passed. But maybe that's a matter of casting."

It's incredibly unlikely the show will have as much star power and attention grabbing headlines like it did back in the old days.

Not that we're advocating for another turkey slap incident but to have the prime minister at the time, John Howard, call for it to be taken off the air was pretty intense.
