How Much Gogglebox Families Really Get Paid To Be On the Show

It's not as much as you'd think

We'd all love to be able to get paid for sitting around and watching television - well, those lucky bastards on Gogglebox get to do just that and some of them have done pretty well for themselves since, just look at Scarlett Moffatt.

In fact, back when she appeared on ITV's I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here she said thanks to her found fame she'd been able to pay off her parents mortgage. This all sounds very glam until a Gogglebox insider told The Sun Online each of the families taking part are only paid £1,500 per month.

For their £1.5k, each family must commit to 12 hours of filming - 12 hours sitting in front of the TV with your feet up? Not bad - split into two six-hour filming slots and they're reportedly bought a takeaway too to keep them going through the strenuous work.

Obviously, each family is a different size, so how they split the £1,500 is up to them.

If the fee hasn't put you off the Channel 4 hit show, there's always a chance your family could be the next stars of the screen.

But producers won't take on just anyone to take part, Studio Lambert only look for viewers with 'strong and entertaining' opinions about the television they indulge in, The Sun Online reported.

Apparently, many of the Gogglebox families were 'street cast' - this means they were spotted on location and picked as perfect on the spot. Examples of this is June and Leon who were said to have been picked up at their bridge club and Stephen and Chris were spotted in the hairdressers.

But if you are one of the lucky ones who knows where a few opinions on this week's television viewing could take you. Scarlett Moffatt went on to make a cool £70k for taking part in I'm a Celeb and went on to use her gift of the gab on Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway and as a co-presenter on I'm a Celeb Extra Camp.

Get famous enough and, who knows, they may even ask you back for the celebrity specials - such as when Peter Crouch and Abbey Clancey and Danny and Dani Dyer captured the hearts of viewers all over.
