Stephen King Recommends Netflix’s 'La Mante' - The New French Serial Killer Drama

Stephen King thinks Netflix’s new drama is great - and he knows a thing or two about drama.

Netflix is taking over the world. It's made huge profits, announced that loads more people are signing up, and it's even been getting nominations for all of the major awards ceremonies this year, including a few Oscar nods for Mudbound.

One of the things that has made it so popular has been the ability to bring out amazing original content such as Mindhunter, Making A Murderer and - more recently - The End Of The F***ing World.

And now there's a new show for everyone to obsess over: La Mante (The Mantis).

It's a drama series about the hunt for a serial killer who has been inspired by another famous serial killer - Jeanne Deber, known as The Mantis.

The Mantis offers to help out with the investigations (so she's not all bad then) but will only do so under one condition. She will only work with her estranged son - Detective Damien Carrot. This leaves her son with no choice but to reunite with his mother in solitary confinement to stop the killings.

It's been getting some great reviews from critics and writers alike.

The New York Times described it as: "...a bleak serial-killer show with disturbing visuals and stylish misery. Carole Bouquet stars as Jeanne, a vigilante-style serial killer serving a life sentence when a copycat murderer begins imitating her crimes.

"She offers to help the police, on the condition that she gets to work with her son - who is, of course, a police officer. The show is only six episodes, so even if you binge it, its chilling darkness won't take over your life."

One of the most successful authors on the planet, Stephen King, also gave the show his seal of approval on Twitter:

He said: "I'm enjoying LA MANTE (Netflix). It is surveying previously unexplored realms of gruesomeness. I don't believe I've ever seen a man slowly drowning in an industrial washer before. Not even in a Rob Zombie picture."

He should know, too. He has sold over 350 million books worldwide across the horror, supernatural, science fiction and fantasy novels. Quite a lot of those books have been turned into films such as The Shawshank Redemption, It, and The Shining.

The Shawshank Redemption was nominated for seven Academy Awards and is pretty much a stone-cold classic.

If it's good enough for The King, it's probably good enough for you to sit around and watch in your pants with a hangover on Sunday evening.
