Secret 28 Years Later website ‘confirms’ unsettling fan theory about film

Fans think the secret website has confirmed a theory about the new film

28 Years Later has been given numerous plaudits for how it's been marketed as a film so far.

Whether it be the unsettling trailers with audio used to torture US Marines, the unreal cast, or even just how much they’ve managed to keep the plot under wraps, fans have been loving the marketing so far.

One specific aspect that fans have loved however is the hidden easter eggs that Sony have been putting in trailers for their most dedicated fans.

In the case of the most recent 28 Years Later trailer, Sony put symbols on single individual frames of the trailer, which fans were able to convert using a pigpen cypher to get a password to a secret website.

This website, RageLeaks.net, can be unlocked using the word mementomori, and Sony have regularly been updating it with secret looks and pictures for fans to decipher.

Just three weeks ago Sony updated it with an Instagram post which fans think finally prove what has happened to the outside world.

This past weekend, they added another post, and it has fans saying that it has confirmed a common theory about the film.

While the trailers have been light on plot and high on vibes, that hasn’t stopped people from pouring through frames of it to try and figure out what’s going on.

The widely agreed upon idea amongst mega-fans of the series is that the trailer is hinting that the zombies have somehow evolved.

This is due in part to the presence of a huge zombie in one of the trailers who appears to be moving on all fours.

The newly posted content on Rage Leaks appears to add to that theory, as well as another common one held.

Rage Leaks published a set of emails between two doctors, with one providing ‘limited data’ and information regarding ‘samples’ that have been taken.

They describe something (presumably the zombies) going through ‘significant morphological and behavioural differences in this variant’.

It then describes how it is predominantly quadrupedal, though sometimes bipedal.

The scientists argue via email about the need for more samples, which is met with an annoyed response saying it is not possible – however fans have zeroed in on the discussion of a ‘variant’.

Fans took to Reddit to discuss the new content, with one comment reading: “The ‘quadraped’-type infected is clearly the fat crawler from the trailer.

“Interesting that it’s an actual variant instead of just a particularly f**ked up infected.”

A second commenter agreed, adding: “I wonder how the crawling quadrupedal ‘bloated’ infected factor into the ecosystem then.

“Slightly f**ked up to imagine that crawlers may very well be how the infected are able to reproduce if that’s indeed what’s happening.”

Another, however, pointed to another theory, though the two may be able to co-exist.

The other comment said: “I think this more or less confirms an earlier theory I saw that the infected are beginning to replicate chimpanzees in their behaviour.

“Which makes a lot of sense considering that chimpanzees were the initial hosts prior to the outbreak.”

The emails also show aerial pictures of some kind of cultish looking assembly of sticks, likely to be linked in some way to Jack O’Connell’s character, which he confirmed was a cult leader.

All in all, the continued releases of bizarre information on Rage Leaks seems to be pointing to one thing: that 28 Years Later is going to be a fascinating watch.
