Hugh Jackman's brutal transformation into Wolverine for Deadpool 3

Hugh Jackman's brutal transformation into Wolverine for Deadpool 3

After retiring from the role after 2017's Logan, Hugh is back

When Hugh Jackman told audiences that his outing as Wolverine in Logan was the last time donning the famous adamantium claws, it felt like a part of your childhood had died.

He had played the character since 2000's action packed X-Men alongside acting royalty in Sirs Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen.

But enter Deadpool. And enter Ryan Reynolds.

Six years after the release of Logan filming has this week wrapped on Deadpool 3 which will see Jackman return one last time as the famous mutant.

It took years for Reynolds to convince Jackman to return, who had publicly said Logan would not be teaming up with Wade Wilson.

Yet here we are.

The process of turning in to Wolverine one last time has been well documented by Jackman himself, with the Australian actor saying he has 'no days off' when it comes to the gym.

Speaking after filming wrapped on Deadpool 3, Jackman revealed the sacrifice it took to get film-ready once again.

He took part in 4am training every day to get his body looking ripped enough to reprise the role.

On the food front, he enjoyed steamed fish and vegetables four times a day

He did both of these things for six months straight. Intense, to say the least.

Taking to Instagram, Jackman said: "What a ride! I’ve loved every minute of making this movie. Well... not the 4am training or the steamed fish and veg four times a day for six months but the other 93.2%.

"A collective thank you to the entire cast and crew. You are all aces! If you’re reading this and think I mean you, I do. To two of my best mates Ryan Reynolds and [director] Shawn Levy I literally couldn’t have done this without you. LITERALLY! July 26th can’t come soon enough. Time to shave."

Writing on Instagram himself, Reynolds said: "The suit hides the blood. Also sweat... but today, with Deadpool wrapping, it's mostly tears.

"A giant and forever thanks to the cast and crew of our film who battled wind, rain, strikes and Hugh Jackman... all under the stalwart leadership of Shawn Levy.

"I got to make a movie with my closest pals and that doesn't happen very often.

"See ya July 26th."

Jackman's Instagram account is full of videos showing the routines he would undertake to get his body in top shape for the return of Logan.

Jackman has played Wolverine for more than 20 years.

Bicep curls and deadlifts are regulars for Jackman when it comes to muscle gain while the rowing machine is used to keep his cardio up and body fats down.

As for Jackman's transformation for the final outing, fans were full of praise saying that at 55 years old, he is still in the shape of his life.

One said: "Wolverine is back! Great physique sir."

Another wrote: "Unreal. Could cgi himself into a beast but taking the long road. Love it."

A third added: "The one and only! No one will ever replace him he's the paradigm of Wolverine."

Deadpool 3 is released in cinemas 26 July.
