First trailer for Godzilla x King Kong: The New Empire has dropped

This is going to be epic.

Holy hell, make sure you’re sitting down for this one, as the first trailer for Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire has been released.

The MonsterVerse is in full swing, as the sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong is on its way, and the internet is hyped.

In the new teaser we see these two monsters team up together to face a terrifying new monster, a new Kong-like villain.

As per the film’s official synopsis: “This latest entry follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own.

“The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.”

The film stars Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry and Kaylee Hottle reprise their 2021 roles as Dr Illene Andrews, Bernie Hayes and Jia, respectively.

The flick also welcomes newcomers Dan Stevens and Fala Chen.

Adam Wingard, who directed Godzilla vs. Kong, released in 2021, recently sat down with IGN and spoke of the new villain unveiled in the MonsterVerse.

"We wanted to come up with an antagonist that would both be a match for Kong and Godzilla, and that's really hard to do," he said.

"There's a lot more to this character and how he's a threat, and that's going to be something that's going to be fun to kind of dole out."

The director added that it was a must to have more Godzilla in the film this time around, considering he was seen sparingly in the 2021 movie.

"As soon as the [last] movie came out and the audiences started to see it, I was like, 'You just can't separate these two guys again,'" Wingard told the outlet.

"It's too exciting having them in one movie. And now, the next one has to be about the continuation of that relationship, which is going to be the team-up."

Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire is set to be released into cinemas April 12, 2024.
