The first trailer has dropped for Avatar: Fire and Ash.
The sequel will mark the third entry in the James Cameron franchise which currently is planned to have five movies.
Avatar: The Way of Water came out two years ago in 2022 and, despite a 13 year wait, was met with widespread plaudits.

The movie grossed well over $2 billion, meeting the massive expectations set by Avatar, which was the highest grossing film of all time until the release of Avengers: Endgame.
Avatar: Fire and Ash sees the James Cameron passion project continue in the series most well known for its innovation of film technology.

Avatar: Fire and Ash continues the story of Jake Sully, Neytiri, and their family set up in the second film.
The main cast are all returning with Sam Worthington, recent Oscar winner Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, and Stephen Lang.

New actors are joining the cast this time round however, with David Thewlis and Oona Chaplin as well Giovanni Ribis returning from the first film.
The trailer shows the central story for the third film as the movie introduces another Na’vi tribe centred around, you guessed it, Fire and Ash.
Cameron previously said that the fire tribe would represent ‘the worst side of Na'vi’, and the trailer appears to set them up as the villains of the film.

Fans online are torn for the new trailer, though many have taken to social media to show how excited they are for the film which releases in December of this year.

One fan posted on X, saying: “Every frame in Avatar: Fire and Ash looks like a painting, these shots are insane, serving pure visual feast, CINEMA IS BACKKK”.
Another fan posted, saying: “the teaser to avatar 3 was better than every movie so far in 2025 btw.”
Others took to Reddit last week as the trailer for the film was attached to Fantastic Four: The First Steps.
One Reddit fan said: “IT'S SOOO GOOD!! i went to see F4 in cinemas and the trailer was attached… I literally teared up watching it because it's so f*cking good oh my days.”

Another commented saying: “The trailer surprised me and got me more hyped than I expected. Some stuff in there I really was not expecting to see. Like whaaaaat is going on holy sh*t.”
Despite all this, there is one common complaint amongst ‘fans’ that has come back up after seeing the trailer.
One reply to the trailer said: “It’s crazy how these movies make so much money yet nobody talks about them. They’re forgettable and meaningless that’s why. They’re nice to enjoy for the CGI only.”
A common criticism of the Avatar films, the logic seems to unwind itself when oyu realise that people haven’t stopped making the same point since the first film came out and made almost $3 billion.
Avatar: Fire and Ash releases in cinemas December 19.
