Harry Potter fans are just realising what Aunt Petunia is doing in kitchen scene

You'd think that after all of the times fans have spotted something in the Harry Potter films, there'd be nothing left to shock us... but that would be a wrong assumption.

In fact, there are probably so many things in the franchise that you've missed which could add depth or a hidden meaning to scenes.

However, there was one scene in particular that fans are only just realising about which gives a good nod to the books.

It's right in the beginning of the first ever film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, which first released all the way back in 2001 (sorry to make you feel old...).

The first movie is an absolute classic, and is something many of us have seen countless times but probably haven’t really taken in the full spec of what's going on.

As you'll already know, Aunt Petunia is a nasty old witch (well, muggle and a b**ch) and she is just awful to poor Harry in most scenes.

In this particular scene, she is seen in the background in the kitchen when Harry gets his first letter from Hogwarts.

You wouldn't be daft to think that she was just a background character that that point, as many people probably thought the same.

But over on Reddit, fans are pointing out just what she is actually doing with the pot.

Sharing the details with other Potterheads, one wrote: "In Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s (Sorcerer’s) Stone, Aunt Petunia is visible in the background of this scene dyeing Dudley’s old clothes grey for Harry’s uniform.

"This is only ever mentioned in the book."

While Mr Dursley skims through his post, and Harry admires the Hogwarts envelope with his name on it, Aunt Petunia can be seen in the background mixing a pile of clothes around in a big pot.

In the original book, the Dursleys had originally planned on sending Harry to Stonewall High, rather than Dudley's prestigious Smeltings Academy.

For his school uniform, Aunt Petunia had dyed some of Dudley's old clothes grey for Harry to wear.

And luckily for him, the boy wizard’s letter from Hogwarts came just in time, saving him from having to wear the rank uniform looking like 'elephant skin'.

Harry Potter fans were shocked when the easter egg was pointed out to them, baffled they hadn’t spotted it themselves.

One commented: "The amount of times I have seen this movie is crazy, and I’ve read the book once, absolutely loved it, and yet I didn’t even notice this.

“That’s actually really cool!! Just wish they kept Peeves in the film!"

Another put: “Remember when the movies were this true to the books? Good times.”

And one wrote: "I always wondered what she was doing, I'd clearly forgotten that detail between reason the book and watching the film."

Other Harry Potter fans have been left in stitches as Americans discuss the things they thought were magic – but they’re actually just British.

They’re actually hilarious too. I’m talking treacle tart, Christmas crackers and train snack trolleys. Oh, so magical.
