A film starring Jamie Foxx and Tommy Lee Jones – amongst others – has been getting some rave reviews after appearing on Prime Video a few days ago.

Here’s the trailer, so you can see what you think of it.

It’s called The Burial, and it’s actually based on a true story.

Well, sort of.

It’s based on a New Yorker article from 1999 that was based on a true story, but that’s close enough, right?

The plot circles around a hugely successful lawyer called Willie E. Gary, who takes on the case of homeowner Jeremiah Joseph O’Keefe, who wants to sue a big funeral home company over a contractual disagreement.

We won’t tell you how it actually went down, because you’ll have to watch the movie to find that out, but there’s legal intrigue aplenty to be had, as well as a few laughs along the way.

The film premiered recently at Toronto International Film Festival and has received a limited theatrical release, before it touched down onto Prime Video on October 13.

As well as Foxx, who stars as Gary, and Jones, who plays O’Keefe, there are star turns from Jurnee Smollett, Alan Ruck, Mamoudou Athie, and Pamela Reed amongst others.

Since it was released, the film has garnered a rating of over 90 percent on film aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, as well as a healthy 87 percent audience score.

From 84 reviews, that’s good going.

Tommy Lee Jones also stars, amongst others.

According to the critical consensus: “A solid courtroom drama led by a pair of nicely contrasted performances, The Burial hits the expected genre beats -- and remains a crowd-pleasing treat at every turn.”

Fans seem to be loving the flick as well.

One person wrote: “Watched The Burial and thought it was fantastic.

“Jamie Foxx at his best.

“And the chemistry shared between him and Tommy Lee Jones,

“And can we please start mentioning Jurnee Smollett more when it comes to brilliant actors of today?

“She is incredible. Check it out when you can.”

Another comment read: “If you’re looking for something good to watch this weekend, do yourself a favor and watch The Burial.

“Jamie Foxx, Jurnee Smollett, Tommy Lee Jones, Mamoudou Athie, Alan Ruck, and Bill Camp all shine on-screen, delivering excellent performance after excellent performance.”

Jurnee Smollett has been praised for her performance.

A third online review stated: “I really loved this movie.

“It felt like it had the DNA of the great mid-tier movies that got made ages ago that don't get made anymore.

“Jamie was at the top of his game and Director and co-writer Maggie Betts killed it.”

There you have it – if you fancy checking it out, The Burial is available to stream on Prime Video right now.
