Netflix has added a gritty X-rated drama that has a perfect 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

The streamer tends to add a number of series and films on the first day of every month however on 1 October Netflix has added some absolute gems.

Adding to shows of their own such as House of Guinness and the soon to be released new season of Monster, Netflix has added series and films from other studios.

Top tier films such as Inside Lleweyn Davis have been added in the last couple days, in addition to the vastly underrated TV version of Interview with the Vampire.

The standout though for many will be Dark Winds.

The detective drama and psychological thriller is set on the Navajo nation in America, with 95 percent of the cast being indigenous people, alongside the majority of the production crew.

Starring Zahn McClarnon, he plays native police detective Joe Leaphorn who investigates a series of gruesome murders.

Joined by Jessica Matten and Kiowa Gordon, the show is based on a series of highly rated books and has a star-studded lineup of producers including George R. R. Martin and the late great Robert Redford.

This actually marked Redford’s last ever on screen role when him and Martin appeared in a cameo role in the third season.

The perfect 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes can be attributed to a number of glowing reviews.

Kristen Lopez of IndieWire gave the show, which is R-Rated and quite dark, a score of an A in her review.

She said of the series: “Dark Winds may seem similar to other detective shows but it’s more than that.

“With well-written and sharply defined characters, plus an invigorating and tightly wound story, it’ll be hard to wait a week for each episode to drop.”

Only the first season is available to watch so far in the UK. Netflix subscribers in the US will be getting season three on 27 October - so hopefully Brits won't be too far behind.

Judy Berman of Time Magazine said in their review: “Gripping, gorgeously shot and propelled by superb performances, Dark Winds is a very good show that also happens to be very important.”

Critics are not alone in their praise for the show however, with fans taking to social media to talk about how Dark Winds is a special series.

One fan on Reddit called it ‘one of the finest pieces of television [they’ve] seen in a while’, whilst others compared the series to True Detective.

Another fan took to X after watching the first two seasons of the show saying: “I enjoyed the first two seasons of Dark Winds. It’s thrilling, with mysteries solved in every season.

“The show has a fascinating perspective, as most of the cast and all the writers are Native American. I highly recommend it and can’t wait for S3 to premiere next year.”

Now, thankfully, the show is on Netflix.
