One of the stars of Scream 7 has removed a social media post after severe backlash from fans who said it was ‘distasteful’ after an ongoing boycott against the film.

Scream 7 has been by far the most controversial of the franchise, with one of the lead actors Melissa Barrera being fired for her posts on social media about the genocide in Gaza.

This led her co-star Jenna Ortega to exit the film as well, with the pair having played sisters in the rebooted fifth film in the franchise, as well as the sixth.

Barrera’s firing led to a call to boycott the movie by pro-Palestinian activists with director Kevin Williamson saying that protestors have a ‘right to be heard’ after protests outside the premiere.

One of the stars of the film however has hit out at protestors in a post on her Instagram.

Scream 7-star Anna Camp hit out at the boycott and ‘leaks’ on Instagram

Anna Camp, formerly of Pitch Perfect fame, posted on her Instagram story about the film, which she stars in alongside Neve Campbell, McKenna Grace, Isabel May, Jasmine Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding.

She reposted to her story a post by a Scream fan podcast about the film, saying: “Boycotts didn’t work, the critic’s hate didn’t work, the pathetic leaks didn’t work.

“What worked was audiences coming out and making the film a success.” Her story also added the song Karma by Taylor Swift, which many have interpreted at a dig at critics and even Melissa Barrera.

In addition to the calls to boycott the film activists also retaliated by leaking who the killer was months ago, with leaks now turning out to be accurate.

Critics were brutal in their reviews of the film with the sequel sittings at 33% on Rotten Tomatoes, the lowest score in the franchise. Despite controversies the film has opened to a whopping $64,100,000 in the United States with an overall worldwide box office gross of $97,200,000.

Anna Camp apologised and deleted the story but has faced backlash online

Camp posted on X, saying: “It has come to my attention that I reposted someone else’s story that does not reflect my personal beliefs. I have since deleted the repost because I absolutely meant no harm. I’m sorry to anyone who was affected.”

Fans online however are not convinced by her apology. One post quoting her tweet said: “sorry but i dont buy this AT. ALL. you knew what you were posting girl the entire tweet you reposted was making fun of the people boycotting the movie.” This was a consensus amongst fans on social media who questioned why she posted something criticising the ongoing boycott considering it originated with Barrera's firing.

Another fan called the post ‘distasteful and disappointing’, whilst one Reddit commenter questioned what she could have possibly meant. They said: “How exactly did she think that post came off? This is a crazy walk back.”

When Palestine activists held a protest outside of the premiere Barrera posted on Instagram saying: “I see you”, with a heart emoji.

Barrera was fired over her posts about Gaza in November of 2023, putting on her story: “Gaza is currently being treated like a concentration camp.

“Cornering everyone together, with nowhere to go, no electricity no water. People have learnt nothing from our histories… Just like our histories, people are still silently watching it all happen. THIS IS GENOCIDE & ETHNIC CLEANSING.”
