The first trailer has dropped for the live action Snow White film.

The movie is set to star Rachel Zegler, who rose to prominence when she was cast in West Side Story.

Her role in the Spielberg remake was her first ever on screen role.

She is joined in the film by Gal Gadot, who will be playing the Evil Queen.

While the film isn’t even close to being out yet, it has already been riddled with controversy.

In 2023, clips of Zegler discussing the remake went viral on X and TikTok in which she said: “The original cartoon came out in 1937, and very evidently so.

“There's a big focus on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her. Weird. So we didn't do that this time.”

This led to a huge amount of criticism and controversy, which Zegler would later address in a Variety interview in which she said she was incredibly sad about the backlash to her comments.

She said: “I would never want to box someone in and say, 'If you want love, then you can't work’.

“Or 'If you want to work, then you can't have a family.' It's not true. It's never been true.

“It can be very upsetting when things get taken out of context or jokes don't land.

“The love story is very integral. A lot of people wrote that we weren't doing (that storyline) anymore — we were always doing that; it just wasn’t what we were talking about on that day."

The role of the seven dwarves in the movie was also a topic of hot controversy, with Peter Dinklage slamming the film for continuing to depict what he said were harmful stereotypes about little people.

He said on Marc Maron’s podcast: “Literally no offense to anything, but I was sort of taken aback.

“They were very proud to cast a Latino actress as Snow White, but you’re still telling the story of ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.’

“Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me.

“You’re progressive in one way, but you’re still making that f**king backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together.

“Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough.”

Following the comments from Dinklage, who was born with a type of dwarfism called achondroplasia, Disney announced they would be approaching the characters differently.

Snow White releases in Cinemas March 21, 2025.
