Official trailer for Pinocchio's live action remake has just dropped

Official trailer for Pinocchio's live action remake has just dropped

Tom Hanks stars in the live-action remake of the beloved animated film

Not only is Pinocchio about to become a real boy, but he's about to do it in live-action because the trailer for Disney's latest remake is here.

It might be hard to believe, but it's been more than 80 years since fans first saw Pinocchio come to life in the 1940 animated film.

Now, he's set to make a comeback next month with the help of Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, who voices the character after he gains the ability to walk and talk without strings.

Tom Hanks joins Ainsworth in the film as Geppetto, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt voicing the beloved Jiminy Cricket, Pinocchio’s guide as well as his conscience. Also starring in the remake are Keegan-Michael Key, Lorraine Bracco, Cynthia Erivo and Luke Evans.

Fans of the original film will be glad to know that the beloved Disney song 'When You Wish Upon a Star' will be featured once again, but there's also set to be some new tracks included to help the remake stand out from its predecessor.

Pinocchio is set to arrive on Disney+ on 8 September.

Disney gave fans a glimpse at what they could expect from the film in a teaser shared in May, but the release of the full trailer today has left fans praising the remake and looking forward to its release.

"Of joy and happiness, I cried the ENTIRE trailer, thank you @Disney!!," one Twitter user wrote, while another commented: "I cannot wait for this!!!!"

Pinocchio is set to be released on Disney+ on 8 September, with a soundtrack for the film from Walt Disney Records dropping on the same day.

The release of the trailer comes as Guillermo del Toro prepares to release his own film about the character, who he describes as a 'very difficult kid'.

"The beauty of Pinocchio for me is that he’s not a perfect creature...," del Toro explained.

"But he’s a kid that learns the boundary between what he wants and others. He’s very much like Frankenstein: he’s a creature that’s created through unnatural means by a father that he distances himself from and has to learn the ways of the world by failing and ache and pain and loneliness.”

Tom Hanks is starring in the upcoming flick.

In contrast to Disney's live-action version of the film, del Toro will use stop-motion adaptation to help tell Pinocchio's story.

His film is also set to be released this year, but it's set to drop on a rival streaming service, Netflix, a few months after the arrival of Disney's version.

Needless to say, it's a good year for fans of Pinocchio!
