The cinema has always been an exciting place to rock up to - what with all the jazzy snacks on offer, the dark mood lighting and amazing blockbusters awaiting punters behind every door.

However, it appears that not many of us have a scooby about what the projector room at cinemas actually looks like.

Cinema-goers are claiming they feel 'lied to' upon finally finding out what exists in that special little room that makes the magic happen.

Clearly proving that you really do learn something new every day, one man took to TikTok to share his latest enlightenment.

Chase Lee showed his 81.7k followers exactly what exists beyond the screen and it may blow your mind.

The overlay text on the video reads: "Just found out there's only one large projector room in movie theatres and each theatre doesn't have its own small projector room..."

Chase captioned the short clip: "This is so upsetting."

It has since gone viral after clocking up more than 1.7 million views in the one day since it was first posted to the platform.

With over 145.1k likes and hundreds upon hundreds of comments, it's clear people couldn't wait to share their reactions to the major epiphany.

Many people found themselves in the exact same situation as Chase, totally shocked by the actual cinema set-up situation and just how much it differs from the vision they had of it in their mind.

One TikTok user penned: "I have to go sit down."

"Oh because it’s over the entire hallway," realised a second, "for some reason this never occurred to me."

Me too - if we're being totally honest.

A third admitted: "I used to think a little person was up there living in the rooms."

"No one ever told me otherwise but I feel lied to," hit out a fourth, while a fifth revealed: "I'm devastated."

Other cinephiles, however, clearly weren't as surprised by the revelation.

One commented: "Yep! The place I used to work called it the bat cave."

Great name.

"My dad was a manager of a theatre growing up and he would just let me hang out in there and eat popcorn," recalled another.

Many other cinema staffers rushed to weigh in too with one writing: "I work in a theatre with 12 auditoriums and this is true.

"It’s a long room and you can look inside each auditorium and even listen to the movies there.

A second quipped: "Didn’t know this until I worked at the movies."

A final cinema-goer added: "Working at the movies is so fun because you get to discover things like this."

You sure do.
