Kaya Scodelario sent Maya Jama warning before she joined The Gentlemen season 2
The new season of The Gentlemen lands tomorrow (3 September) and with it comes new cast members.
Maya Jama is one of those joining the hit Netflix show, as well as the likes of Hugh Bonneville and Chris Eubank Jr.
And ahead of the Love Island presenter making her proper acting debut in the series, star Kaya Scodelario sent her a little bit of a warning.
The Skins star of course plays Susie Glass in The Gentlemen alongside lead Theo James, with Guy Ritchie at the helm as the creator.

But the director is known for having his own style of directing with James having previously referred to it as getting ‘Ritchied’. So, Scodelario thought it was worth giving Jama a bit of a ‘heads up’ before she joined the set.
The actor explains that Ritchie has a tendency of rewriting scripts on the go, with his actors having to be pretty reactive on the spot.
“This time around, me and Theo knew what was going to happen – and it does unlock this really unique way of being completely present as a character, which I love,” she told Grazia.
So, with that being a pretty daunting concept at first, Scodelario slid into Jama’s DMs.
“I just said, ‘Hey, babe, heads up! This is going to not be what you expect. Be ready to be on your toes and trust the process,’” the star recalled.
The 34-year-old Brit explained she knows how ‘intimidating’ it can be to enter a new step in your career as well as ‘coming from a working-class background’.
Scodelario added: “I just wanted her to know that I’m a girls’ girl.”
Jama has dipped her toes in the acting world before, having featured in a small part in Katherine Ryan’s The Duchess series back in 2020.
And she’s long-dreamed of being an actor, having actually auditioned for Skins herself when she was 15, as a Bristol local.
“I got to the last stage with me and one other girl and I was convinced that was going to be my big break,” she told Variety.
“And then I didn’t get it and I was like, ‘I’m never doing this again.’ And just completely gave up on the dream.”
But in a full-circle moment, Jama had the ‘lovely’ Scodelario reaching out to her about it being ‘a bit wild’ and offering her support.
Playing Aisha, the star told fans on Instagram she ‘can’t wait’ for them to see it as she admitted being on set was ‘the most overwhelming thing ever’ at first due to all the leads in the room.
“All of them were actually just really welcoming and supportive. We got on, had little drinks after work sometimes and it was really cool,” she added to Variety, saying that she hopes to continue acting after this.
