Details On The Next 'Battlefield' Game Have Been Leaked

It's called 'Battlefield 1.'

It's been well over two years since Battlefield 4 and just a little over a year since we got Battlefield: Hardline.

Last Friday we were told there would be an official reveal of the game on May 6th (today). DICE had promised that details would be unveiled at a "world premiere" event.

Well today is the day and it looks like some of the details have leaked onto the internet already.

According to The Verge the game which will be titled Battlefield 1 will be set in 'alternative history World War I.'

This sounds like the franchise is moving into borderline sci-fi territory which immediate competitor Call of Duty have done with their Black Ops series.

Kotaku also reported that the official promotional image (above) appeared in a Xbox Live advertisement this morning.

There had been rumours of the next installment taking place in the past for some time now and if this promotional image is to be believed, it looks like those rumours were correct. The image appears to show a zeppelin floating behind a soldier carrying an old-fashioned pistol and spiked club.

There are also some murmurings over on Twitter that the game will be released on October 18th later this year.

As of right now none of this has been confirmed by EA, but later today the Battlefield world premiere livestream takes place at 1:00pm PT / 4:00pm ET / 9:00pm GMT so in a few hours we will know all of this for sure.
