In the mid-2000s the Burnout games took everything about arcade racers and applied that to a truly spectacular console experience.

The team behind it, Criterion Games, had carved an identity that no-one else could touch.

Then they went away and we were hit with a plethora of simulators that gave us a 'real driving experience' that were mostly as boring as driving actually is.

Well, now, we have a new driving game on the horizon.

Yesterday, Burnout director Alex Ward simply tweeted: 'Work has begun on a new driving game.'

It's very vague but EuroGamer have reported that Ward, along with other former Criterion employees, now works at indie company Three Fields Entertainment.

The first game from Three Fields was called Dangerous Golf and had obvious Burnout influences running through it, as this trailer shows.

The last Burnout game, Paradise, was released way back in 2008 so it's about time we were treated with another game in the series. Whether this new driving game will be another Burnout title or just something similar still remains to be seen.
