How to check if you are one of millions of Playstation owners that could be owed up to £500

Have you spent a wad of cash on PlayStation games and add-ons between 2016 and 2022?

If so, you might be in for the chance to get some of your money back.

After Sony was slapped with a class action lawsuit for ‘abuse of dominant position’ in the gaming industry and hiking prices to stupid amounts, you could now join the lawsuit and claim back.

The $7.9 billion (£5 billion) lawsuit filed by consumer rights advocate Alex Neill claimed Sony has been ripping off PlayStation customers for years - and that’s just not on.

The giant also decided to take a 30 percent cut of developer commission on games which would allow them to charge more per game. Sneaky business.

PlayStation You Owe Us, a website which was set up to provide information about the claim, said: “In the UK, it is illegal for companies to abuse their dominant position.

“This includes directly or indirectly imposing unfair purchase or selling prices or other unfair trading conditions.

“We believe that PlayStation occupies a dominant position in relation to the digital distribution of PlayStation games and in-game content and that it has been unfairly charging its UK customers too much for digital games and in-game content purchased through the PlayStation Store.”

So, how much might you be owed in compensation and how can you claim?

If you bought digital games or add-ons via the PlayStation Store between 19 August 2016 and 19 August 2022, you could get anything between £67 and £562 back, with interest.

Now, it’s not millions, but it’s enough to probably buy yourself an Xbox instead.

However, it really does depend on how much you forked out on PlayStation goods within the timeframe.

PlayStation You Owe Us reckons that Sony might end up paying between £6bn and £5bn in damages if the court filing goes in the gamers’ favour.

To claim, all you need to do is… nada.

The class action case means that you’re automatically enrolled and can raise your ticket with PlayStation You Owe Us’ website.

But the website also notes that it could take ‘years’ for anything to come of your claim if it’s successful. I mean, there’s always hope right?
