The Great British Bake Off returns for 2022, after fears it would be delayed following the death of Her Majesty The Queen.

Many fans are excited to meet the next batch of GBBO contestants who are joining Prue Leith, Paul Hollywood, Noel Fielding, Matt Lucas and the team.

Who are the Great British Bake Off Contestants 2022?

There's a mixed bag as always, with a huge range of ages, experience and nationalities, and include a nuclear scientist, a music teacher and a nanny. Who will make the best cake, and will anyone get the much-wanted Hollywood handshake?

The series has made household names out of many of the winners, including Nadiya Hussain, John Whaite and Candice Brown.

Here are the stars-in-the-making for the latest series of The Great British Bake Off.

Abdul, 29, London

Abdul is an electronics engineer who has been baking since he graduated.

He loves baking for colleagues to ensure there's always something sweet for coffee breaks, and loves to use matcha in his flavourings.

Abdul says his scientific job helps him with the chemistry and precision required for baking.

Carole, 59, Dorset

One of the most vibrant contestants this year, rainbow-hued carol works in a supermarket.

She found a love for baking after making her eldest granddaughter's birthday cake.

Carol is a self-taught baker, using YouTube tutorials for advice and honing her decoration.

She's a big fan of strong and fruit flavours.

Dawn, 60, Bedforshire

IT Manager Dawn loves weird and wonderful cakes with creative designs.

Thanks to her steady hand, she loves to make her bakes as detailed as possible and is a big fan of making lace patterns on biscuits.

Expect her to make something with her favourite flavours of lemon, salted caramel and nuts.

James, 25, Cumbria

A nuclear scientist, James is a fan of all things autumnal and loves mixed spice, apples and caramel.

We bet he's very excited about pumpkin spice lattes being back! He also loves horror from the 1970s and 1980s.

A cinnamon flavoured horror cake, perhaps?

Janusz, 34, East Sussex

When not busy working as a personal assistant to a head teacher, Janusz loved baking "cartoon-like, colourful and camp" creations.

He says he learned to bake from his mother, and loves to incorporate Polish ingredients into British classics. His favourite flavours are ginger and chocolate.

Kevin, 33, Lanarkshire

A music teacher by trade, Kevin has been baking since he was a teenager.

He loved to use the best seasonal ingredients he can get, and loves to work on technique rather than presentation.

Will the judges agree with him? His favourite flavours include fruits, herbs, nuts and spices.

Maisam, 18, Greater Manchester

This year's youngest baker is student & sales assistant Maisam who has been baking since she was 13-years-old.

She's something of a perfectionist and practices her bakes over and over. Her favourite flavours include olives, dates and sesame seeds.

Maxy, 29, London

In between working as an architectural assistant and being a busy mum, Maxy honed her baking skills following the birth of her first daughter five years ago.

Her favourite flavours hark back to her Scandinavian upbringing. Think cardamom and saffron buns and cinnamon rolls.

Rebs, 23, County Antrim

Masters student Reb has been helping her mum in the kitchen at just three years old.

One of her favourite baking memory is the delicious lemon meringue pies baked by her Gran.

She uses baking as a method to unwind, and loves Middle Eastern flavours thanks to her boyfriend's Turkish heritage.

Sandro, 30, London

He works as a nanny and also runs virtual baking classes for children with autism.

Sandro first started baking at the age of 21 when he sadly lost his father, and he used baking as a form of therapy. His favourite flavours include paprika and cheese, and dulce de leche.

Syabira, 32, London

The cardiovascular research associate started baking in 2017.

Her first ever creation was a red velvet cake, and she now loves to add Malaysian flavours to traditional bakes. How about a chicken rendang Cornish pasty?

Will, 45, London

A former charity director, Will has also been baking since he was a toddler. He remembers when his mum would give him pastry trimmings to make jam tarts.

He loves using yeast in bakes as he enjoys the technical side of baking. His favourite flavours are salted caramel and paprika.

The Great British Bake Off starts tonight, September 13, on Channel 4.
