All aboard the hype train, as the trailer for the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon has finally dropped. Check it out:

Right off the bat (or should we say sword), we're shown the iconic Iron Throne, which is sure to quench the thirst of all the GoT fans out there.

Set to premiere in August, the prequel tells the story of House Targaryen 200 years before the epic events of the hit HBO fantasy show, focusing on the Targaryen civil war that became known as the 'Dance of the Dragons'.

Among the cast is Paddy Considine as King Viserys I, the fifth king of the Targaryen dynasty to rule the Seven Kingdoms.

The trailer also introduces us to Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra, Viserys’ first child and a character we can't help but compare to the iconic Daenerys Targaryen.

Doctor Who star Matt Smith will also be appearing as Prince Daemon, Viserys’ younger brother.

We don't have long to wait until House of the Dragon premieres.
HBO

While fans were left a little disappointed by how Game of Thrones' eighth and final season panned out, many are so blown away by the House of the Dragon trailer that they're willing to forgive and forget.

"That #HouseoftheDragon trailer some heat," wrote one on Twitter. "They tryna make us forget about season 8 lmao."

Another wrote: "From whatever trailers and few other snippets that have been released, House of the Dragon really looks promising!

"Game of Thrones fans seem to have finally come out of the season 8 shock."

A third added: "I wasn’t sure how excited I’d be for more #GameOfThrones after season 8 but man I can’t lie #HouseoftheDragon is looking and sounding so good!"

Both viewers and the production team will undoubtedly hope that the new series can replicate the success of its predecessor.

And judging by the reaction to the trailer, the odds are looking pretty good.

Fans are blown away by the new trailer.
HBO

What's more, the show will be based on George R.R. Martin's 2018 book Fire and Blood, and it seems that those who enjoy the author's work are ready to get behind the new series.

In short, there's a lot to be excited about - especially now that the trailer is here and we don't have long to wait until the 10-episode series kicks off.

HBO has confirmed that House of the Dragon will premiere on 21 August on HBO Max in the US and on 22 August on Sky Atlantic and Now TV in the UK. Popcorn at the ready.
