House of the Dragon: Release Date, Trailer, Cast, and Plot

All you need to know about the Game Of Thrones prequel

Game of Thrones fans' thirst can finally be quenched as the new Westerosi TV Show is almost upon us. The prequel is set hundreds of years before the events which took place in Game of Thrones so we will get to enjoy a whole new ensemble of cast and characters.

What will the new TV show be about?

The prequel is set around 200 years before characters like Jon Snow and Daenerys were around, so it is extremely unlikely that we will see any Game of Thrones characters in the upcoming show.

The series will be based around the Targaryen Civil war known in the Fire and Blood book as the Dance of Dragons, so what we do know is the Tragaryens will be central to the show. Because there is so much material to base the show on it is unclear what the actual plot will be, but it is very likely to include dragons, as the protagonists are known to be famed dragon riders.

Release Date

It’s been revealed that there are only a few months before we can see House of the Dragon as it will be released on 21 August 2022. Like its predecessor, the series will be available on Sky Atlantic and you’ll also be able to watch it on NOW.

Trailer

We were first introduced to the new characters last year as a trailer packed with nostalgia due to its Game of Thrones music was released in October 2021.

The more recent trailer from 5 May 2022 confirmed the civil war themed plot and also showed off some of the incredible special effects that we’re going to be treated to in August.

Cast and Characters

The Hot Fuzz actor Paddy Considine will take on the role of the good King Viserys Targaryen, whilst Doctor Who and the Crown’s Matt Smith will become the heroic Prince Daemon Targaryen. Also in the main cast is Emma D’arcy who’s going to be the dragon-rider, Rhaenyra Targaryen.

Regarding characters of ‘Greater and Lesser’ houses, we have Olivia Cooke as Lady Alicent Hightower, Fabien Frankel as Ser Criston Cole, Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria and Rhys Ifans as Ser Otto Hightower. The vast nature of the Game of Thrones universe means there will be plenty of other characters that we can learn to love or despise in the upcoming show.
