Shocking House of the Dragon 'traumatises' viewers after another incest scene

Viewers of House of the Dragon are well accustomed to seeing characters engage in incest at this point, but they would really like it if the show stopped doing dream sequences of sons having sex with their mothers.

This is a show where our two rival claimants for the throne are married to their uncle and sister respectively, and are trying to succeed a father whose parents were brother and sister.

Yuck.

Frankly we'd be here all day if we went through all of the various incestuous relationships on the show, but House of the Dragon keeps finding a way to push the envelope.

Last season while Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) was spinning his wheels having dream sequences at Harrenhal the show depicted a sex scene between him and his mother, and now they've decided to do it again.

Your humble writer was watching the latest episode while having his dinner and was put right off his food during a scene where Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) had his own Harrenhal dream sequence where he thought he was having sex with his mother Alicent (Olivia Cooke).

It's not the first time this series Aemond has demonstrated some unwholesome love for his mum but this time he was going further and in bed with her.

Then he came to his senses and realised the woman he was having sex with wasn't his mum, but actually Alys Rivers (Gayle Rankin), at which point he appeared to lose interest and pushed her off him.

We could have spent this time with other characters fleshing out other parts of the world, but here we are with another mother-son incest sex dream at Harrenhal and plenty of viewers were less than enthused about what they were seeing.

One fan even went so far as to describe themselves as 'traumatised', though in fairness that's an appropriate response to watching a scene where a boy f**ks his mother.

Another wrote 'lord so much incest going on in House of the Dragon' followed by the vomit emoji, while someone else said they really loved the show but they would 'need that Incest s**t to be toned down'.

"You think House of the Dragon has pushed the limit of incest it can show on TV and then it just gets worse every episode," was a fourth fan's critique of what they were seeing.

Spare a thought for the actors, as Rankin told Variety it was a 'a very odd, f**ked-up scene'.

She said: "It was very intimate and very odd but very professional.

"We tried to like make jokes, just to keep it light-hearted because those scenes are not easy and they’re complicated and very technical. So it was also just like it was another day at the office for being like a very odd, f**ked-up scene."

Things are made worse when the real Alicent shows up and has an awkward dinner with her son and his new girlfriend, then tries to poison him, he seems to survive it as he staggers into Alys' room before collapsing so she'll be looking after him again.
