People watching the Oscars reckon Hugh Grant would make the perfect host for next year's ceremony after he made a hilarious comment while presenting an award tonight.

Grant took to the stage with his former Four Weddings and a Funeral co-star Andie MacDowell, who he described as 'still stunning'.

He went on to say he looked like 'basically a scrotum' - a self-deprecating remark that not only had people in stitches, but also saw calls for him to present in the future.

One commented: "OMG time and time again Hugh Grant proves more and more why I’ve always loved him. Effortlessly funny. 'Basically a scrotum'."

Someone else said: "Hugh Grant got a better laugh from the crowd in 30 seconds than Kimmel has for the whole show #Oscars."

A third wrote: "Hugh Grant describing his face as 'basically a scrotum' is my favourite ever #Oscars moment."

A fourth added: "Let Hugh Grant host the 2024 Oscars."

Another agreed: "Let Hugh Grant host the Oscars, I am deeply serious."

Twitter

It's been a night of two halves for Grant.

Earlier in the evening, the actor was criticised by some viewers for an incredibly 'awkward' red carpet interview with Ashley Graham, who asked if he was rooting for any of the nominees.

After a moment, Grant bluntly replied: "No one in particular."

Graham tried to pivot to an easy awards show question about if Grant was wearing a label or designer that he wanted to give a shoutout to.

But he said he was 'just wearing my suit'.

Graham then asked if he'd enjoyed working on Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, but Grant pointed out that he was only in the film briefly.

She tried one more trick saying it must have been fun, regardless of how long he was in it for, to which he responded flatly: "Almost."

The interview was painful to watch.

The cringeworthy exchange was met with a strong reaction online, with one saying: "And the Oscar for the guy who totally doesn't want to be there goes to Hugh Grant."

Someone else wrote: "Anyone catch the eye roll Hugh Grant just gave after this live Oscars interview? Was he mad she called him a 'veteran' of the Oscars or was he just mad at the world?"

A third said: "Hugh Grant is the biggest D bag for this interview. Hugh, If you don't want to be there go home. Worst Oscars interviews ever."

A fourth commented: "Is Hugh Grant just an arrogant d**k all the time? He was so rude to Ashley Graham on the red carpet, complete with an eye roll. Maybe he should stay home if he's too good for his industry of choice."
