Jenna Ortega receives Golden Globe Best Actress nomination for her role in Wednesday

The actor is up against some stiff competition for the award.

Jenna Ortega has been honoured with a Golden Globe nomination for her role in Wednesday.

Despite the Netflix series only being released a few weeks ago, her performance has clearly taken the Globes judges by storm.

The show has become one of the biggest programmes in Netflix history and could be about to knock Stranger Things 4 off the top spot for hours viewed.

Last week, Wednesday had racked up a total of 752.5 hours viewed since it premiered on November 23.

It was sitting at number three on the charts as the most-watched English-language TV title for the streaming service.

To take the 28 day record, Stranger Things 4 is top of the pops with 1.35 billion hours viewed in its first 28 days.

Sitting at number two was Netflix's true crime smash hit Monster — Dahmer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, with 856.2 million hours watched.

Ortega will be up against some stiff competition in the Best Television Actress for a Musical or Comedy category at the 2023 Golden Globes.

Jean Smart has also been nominated for her brilliant performance in Hacks, Selena Gomez was recognised for her role in Only Murderers in the Building, Quinta Brunson has copped on a nod for Abbott Elementary, and Kaley Cuoco was praised for The Flight Attendant.

Over in the men's category, you've got Bill Hader for Barry, Martin Short and Steve Martin for Only Murderers in the Building, Donald Glover for Atlanta, and Jeremy Allen White for The Bear.

But it wouldn't be awards season without an upset or two.

While House of the Dragon has been nominated for the 2023 Golden Globes, Paddy Considine missed out on any nominations.

Kevin Costner (Yellowstone), Jeff Bridges (The Old Man), Adam Scott (Severance), Diego Luna (Andor) and Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul) took out all the nominations for Best Television Actor for a Drama Series.

The snub has left some fans absolutely furious as they thought Considine deserved to be up there with the rest of the lads for his portrayal of King Viserys Targaryen.

One said: "Paddy Considine not getting nominated for a single Golden Globe is the reason I don’t believe in award shows anymore. Such a joke."

A second added: "PADDY CONSIDINE WAS ROBBED FOR VISERYS ON HOUSE OF THE DRAGON. BURN THEM ALL."

A third was just flat-out livid: "The Golden Globes really snubbed Paddy Considine and Matt Smith, I’m PISSED."

A fourth shared a video of one of the actor's more incredible scenes, alongside the caption: "No Golden Globes nomination for THIS performance of Paddy Considine, is my villain origin story."

The 80th Golden Globe Awards ceremony will be held next year on January 11.
