Jim Carrey Opens Up On The Age Which Made Him ‘Freak Out’

Having recently celebrated the big 6-0, the Hollywood heavyweight is reflecting back on his extensive career

Jim Carrey has opened up about the age which made him ‘freak out’ - and it’s not the milestone you might think.

The comedy legend featured in many of our childhood favourites, from The Mask and Ace Ventura to Liar Liar and Dumb & Dumber

Having recently celebrated the big 6-0 and announced potential plans to retire from acting, the Hollywood heavyweight is reflecting back on his extensive career.

On the age that made him ‘freak out’, he told CBS Mornings that rather than the recent milestone, turning 25 was the age that really got him.

“I freaked out at 25,” he said. “25 was a weird one for me because I felt like I was a quarter century, it seemed insane to me that I was a quarter century old.”

Carrey’s mindset has certainly changed over time, especially now he’s approaching his winter years and he’s turned to a more spiritual approach to life.

He continued: “Now I don’t care, I feel fantastic. You know, I get a sore hip now and again. I don’t put all my stock in this vessel.

“I think a long time ago I started feeling an expanded consciousness and a real palpable feeling of wholeness that includes everything.

“Ultimately how I feel about humanity is that every human being is a masterpiece in need of varying degrees of restoration.”

I think we can all learn a little from Carrey’s wise words, something the online community was quick to point out.

A clip of the interview was shared on CBS Mornings’ TikTok page where it’s received hundreds of comments, with one writing: “He's speaking a lot of truth.”

Another said: “We need more of people like him in Hollywood. Well everywhere.”

Others could relate to the quarter century part, including this person who commented: “I’m 25 now and felt the same way, I’m so glad he felt the same.”

In other Carrey news, the actor, who recently said he was 'sickened' by Will Smith's slap to Chris Rock at the Oscars, opened up about his future acting plans.

The 60-year-old was speaking to Access Hollywood ahead of his new film Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and he revealed he's 'probably' going to retire.

He said: "Well, I am retiring, I am being fairly serious.

"It depends – if the angels bring some sort of script that's written in gold ink, that says to me that it's going to be really important for people to see, I might.

"I might continue down the road, but I'm taking a break."

Jim added: "I really like my quiet life, and I really love putting paint on canvas, and I really love my spiritual life.

“I feel like – and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists – I have enough. I've done enough. I am enough."
