What Is Johnny Rotten's Net Worth In 2022?

Johnny Rotten, the lead singer of the UK band Sex Pistols, faced financial ruin in 2021, so what is his net worth currently in 2022?

John Lydon aka Johnny Rotten is perhaps best known for his work as the front man for the infamous punk band the 'Sex Pistols'.

The band's only studio album ‘Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols' was released in 1977 and hit #1 on the UK charts. Since then they have become absolute punk idols releasing anthems such as God Save the Queen (if you pardon the pun.) So how much is the legendary icon worth?

Johnny Rotten Net Worth:

The English singer is worth $500 thousand (£412,000), according to celebrity net worth. However, in 2021 after he lost a legal fight with the rest of the band over the use of Sex Pistols songs in the TV biopic ‘Pistol’. Lydon told the Daily Telegraph, “I’m seriously in a state of financial ruin…I’ve got no more savings, no more loans, no pensions. I’ve got nothing. All right? I’m practically this close to zero." Since then, however, Johnny Rotten has somewhat recovered from his situation of financial wreckage.

But how did the Punk icon rise to success in the first place? It is said that John was spotted wearing his infamous “I Hate Pink Floyd” t-shirt and was then asked to audition as a singer for an upcoming band that would later become ‘the Sex Pistols’. He subsequently got his nickname Johnny Rotten for his decaying teeth. The band saw incredible success after the release of their debut (and only) album, with songs such as ‘Anarchy in the U.K.’ and ‘C'mon Everybody’. They also had their fair share of controversy, for example, after the band released their hugely popular single ‘God Save the Queen’ during the silver jubilee celebrations John was attacked in the street and slashed several times.

Skipping forward to 2022, the financial ruin mentioned earlier came from losing a legal fight over the brand new Sex Pistol’s biopic ‘Pistol’ directed by Danny Boyle and starring Masie Williams. The series has been met with generally quite underwhelming reviews, with The Guardian deeming it ‘Frustrating’ and ‘Cartoonish’.
