Doctor Explains Why Men Take Longer On The Toilet Than Women

Turns out there's a reason why men can sometimes spend up to half an hour on the can- and it's not because they're browsing Twitter on there

“Why do men take so long to go to the toilet?”

It’s a question as old as time itself, a source of countless sitcom fuel and endless speculation from the world’s wive’s, partners and sisters.

But aside from a cheap punchline, there may actually be a scientific reason why men spend such a long time on the loo, as one doctor has revealed. Take a look below:

In a post on TikTok, Dr Karan Rajan responded to a user who claimed that the reason why women take less than five minutes on the toilet is because unlike men, their poo doesn’t hit their G-spot.

Surprisingly, the doctor then claimed that this theory could in fact be true, and that it was even possible for men to experience a feeling of ‘poo-phoria’ when grappling with a particularly large load.

He explained: "The prostate, often referred to as the male G-spot, is a gland that sits just in front of the rectum.

"So a particularly large bowel movement may stimulate this land, leading to 'poo-phoria'".

Apparently, the sense of relief that sometimes accompanies an urgent trip to the toilet can sometimes be so intense that it can even come close to a religious experience or an orgasm, according to Princeton gastroenterologist Dr Anish Sheth.

Dr Sheth - co-author of the book What's Your Poo Telling You? - claims that passing a particularly large stool can stimulate nerves that create an orgasmic-like experience... or 'poo-phoria', as Dr Karan said.

The doctor even claimed that the feeling can become addictive for some, and explained to the Huffington Post: "The distension of the rectum that comes with the passing of a large mass of stool causes the vagus nerve to fire.

“The net effect of this is a drop in your heart rate and blood pressure, which in turn decreases blood flow to the brain. When mild, the light-headedness can lead to a sense of sublime relation — the high."

But like many of life's pleasures, attempting to chase that first high inevitably leads to diminishing returns, and in some cases can even lead to disastrous consequences.

In a warning about overdoing it when dealing with a particularly big job, Dr. Sheth claimed that straining too hard can produce a feeling so intense that it makes the user feel light headed and prone to losing consciousness.

"A more significant drop in brain perfusion can cause ‘defecation syncope’, a dangerous syndrome that results in a loss of transient consciousness (the O.D. or Over-Doodie)," they explained.

So guys, you heard the doc - carry on having a good time in there, but try not to poo so hard that you end up passing out.
