Let there be Carnage indeed.

After many months of waiting, fans around the world have been given their first proper look at Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage.

The highly anticipated sequel to the 2018 origin story shows Tom Hardy back in action as the anti-hero Venom, who is the alter-ego of investigative journalist Eddie Brock.

Despite Brock finding it difficult and overwhelming after linking up with the symbiote in the first film, it appears the two are getting along well in Venom 2.

They get to cook together (even though it's a bit of a s**tshow), they say hello to their favourite convenience store worker, and they get to explore the underbelly of their city.

But the trailer finally gives us a good look at Brock's enemy in the sequel: Woody Harrelson's Cletus Kasady aka Carnage.

The villain was teased at the end of the first Venom film, however the new trailer gives us our first proper look at the killing machine in action.

In the original Marvel comics, the alien symbiote that bonds with Brock to form Venom spawns an offspring symbiote, which bonds with remorseless serial killer Cletus Kasady to form Carnage - a darker, more powerful and utterly brutal supervillain who originally appeared in the Spider-Man universe.

Michelle Williams and Reid Scott reprise their roles as Anne Weying and Dan Lewis, featuring alongside the likes of Naomi Harris, Stephen Graham (who fans spotted reading a copy of Spider-Man-related newspaper The Daily Bugle in the trailer), Sean Delaney and Larry Olubamiwo.

The production has faced serious delays thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, having originally been set for release in October 2020.

Sony pushed the film's launch back to June 2021, before delaying until September this year.

It sounds like it should all be worth the wait, though, as director Andy Serkis has promised 'extraordinary' things.

Speaking to reporters at the TCA press tour back in 2019, he said: "It's a fantastic franchise and I'm honoured to be asked to direct it. It feels like a very contemporary story, and I think, hopefully, that it's going to be an extraordinary piece of cinema."

In the meantime, it looks like the new trailer is getting fans suitably excited, with one commenting on Twitter: "This looks so good! Can't wait!"

Another fan wrote: "HOLY S*** CARNAGE LOOKS SO GOOD

A third added: "THANK YOU FINALLY SOME GOOD CARNAGE CONTENT AAAA."
