Khaby Lame Could Soon Dethrone Charli D'Amelio To Become Most Followed TikTok Account

Khaby Lame Could Soon Dethrone Charli D'Amelio To Become Most Followed TikTok Account

The dialogue-free parody clip legend is hot on the heels the 18-year-old.

Charli D’Amelio could soon lose her position as TikTok's overlord as comedian Khabane Lame is coming for her top spot.

The 18-year-old D’Amelio began her career on the social media platform in 2019 and quickly became the most followed content creator on the platform, reaching 100 million followers in 2020.

The TikTok dancer remained unmatched for a while and has since surpassed 141.7 million followers, very much mirroring the rise of the social platform itself.

When she hit 100 million followers, Charli shared a video with the caption: "A HUGE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS HELPED ME REACH 100 MILLION SUPPORTERS!!! AND ANOTHER HUGE THANK YOU TO @tiktok I LOVE EVERY ONE OF YOU!!!"

She explained in the video that the achievement felt like a 'dream' adding: "I can't believe there's 100 million supporters following me right now. That is insane, oh my goodness.

"Y'all can't grasp that this is real, I still feel like it's a dream, kind of waiting to wake up. Very insane. Oh my goodness, thank you!"

However, Khabane Lame, who produces dialogue-free parody clips, has now hit 140.8 million followers and is hot on the heels of D’Amelio.

A pretty impressive feat for someone that barely talks in his clips.

Khaby likes to emphasise the stupidity of other content creators’ life hacks by exaggerating their actions and giving them a wide-eyed stare.

This dead-pan sense of humour has the 22-year-old's follower count rising at a rapid rate. While he may be nearly 1 million followers off of D’Ameilo, he is poised to surpass her.

According to the analytics site Social Blade, Lame has gained 3 million followers in the past month, while D’Ameilo has gained 1 million - meaning Lame could be crowned as king of TikTok within a month.

While both content creators have different sections of audiences on the app, there has been a recent push from Lame’s followers to push him to the top spot.

Using the hashtag #KhabyToNumberOne, the TikTok users have started a movement that has seen the creator’s follower growth boost in recent months.

Speaking about why fans connect with his videos, Lame told The New York Times that his reactions and expressions are a ‘global language’.

He said: “It’s my face and my expressions which make people laugh.”

With 2.3 billion likes across his videos, there is no doubt that Lame is certainly on to a winning formula.
