Fans have already been dishing out their own potential storylines involving the pair.

Everyone wanted to see more of Wolverine and Deadpool on screen together and it seems like we were about to be given exactly that.

Ryan Reynolds has seemingly revealed some old storylines that were to take place in the third Deadpool prior to Walt Disney Company buying 20th Century Fox.

While it's hard to tell whether the actor is pulling our leg or not - as he has known to do in the past - Reynolds told followers on Twitter that a previous storyline could have seen the comical superhero hit the road with Hugh Jackman as Logan.

Speaking in honour of the Bell Let's Talk mental health awareness campaign, Reynolds spilled the apparent leak.

He added that the buddy picture would have gone 'Rashomon style', referring to the Akira Kurosawa classic in which the story is recounted by several characters but in various different ways.

Fans were quick to jump in with storylines of their own featuring the pair, with one suggesting: "Just two hours of you guys driving. Deadpool saying they should stop at places, Logan saying no. Sudden cut to them at that place."

Another added: "Or they could have Hugh Jackman play a different character, then Deadpool will keep on insisting he's Logan and will keep on offering a Wolverine costume or trick him into wearing it."

The Disney and 20th Century Fox merger threw a spanner in the works for the franchises third instalment. It's since been revealed Deadpool 3 will take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the highly-anticipated flick isn't expected to begin filming until 2022 at the earliest.

In a previous interview with Collider, Marvel boss Kevin Feige Feige confirmed that the film will also live up to its predecessors.

Speaking to the news outlet, he said: "It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan's overseeing a script right now... It will not be [filming] this year."

With many projects put on hold in 2020, Feige added that Deadpool star Reynolds is playing catch up.

Feige added: "Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We've got a number of things we've already announced that we now have to make, but it's exciting for it to have begun.

"Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life."

We first got news of the latest project back in November, when sources confirmed that sisters Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin were likely writing the forthcoming movie, with Reynolds again set to reprise his role as the potty-mouthed superhero.

"In the end, the studio and Reynolds saw the sisters' take as the perfect fit for what they wanted," Deadline said, adding that while the film was still in 'early development', the hiring of the Molyneux sisters marked the 'first major step' in getting the next instalment into production.
