Taika Waititi Asks Star Wars Fans If They Want A Movie All About Jar Jar Binks

The Thor: Love and Thunder director promises he won't ruin the Star Wars franchise when he films the next movie in the saga.

Taika Waititi is being hounded about the direction he wants to take his Star Wars movie.

The Thor: Love and Thunder director has signed on to helm the next phase of the galaxy far, far away and fans are intrigued about whether he will continue the storyline from the third trilogy or go somewhere different.

Judging from his latest interviews, Waititi is definitely leaning towards the latter.

When asked whether he will keep the Skywalker saga in his storyline, the Kiwi legend told Rolling Stone: "I don’t want to mess with something that's so treasured.

"There are thousands of books [about] Star Wars with all those characters. I just don’t have time to get through them."

He added: "I’m not promising that I’m not going to do anything like that. I’m just saying: It’d be easier for me to not do that."

Waititi then asked the question that would likely send shivers down the spines of Star Wars fans.

"Would you like to see a Jar Jar Binks movie?" he asked.

It's hard to understand whether he was being serious in this hypothetical question, but chances are a Jar Jar Binks origin story won't be on the cards, which is devastating because he has one hell of a backstory.

This isn't the first time Waititi has jokingly suggested a Jar Jar Binks movie either.

When he was on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, he was asked whether him taking control of the Star Wars movie franchise would 'ruin' it.

He replied: “No I’m not [going to ruin Star Wars]. No I’m not. What if I was like, yeah, I’m going to give you the Jar Jar Binks story.”

However, fans are a little worried about the direction he will take considering he forgot one of the prequel's biggest characters.

During his interview with Rolling Stone, Waititi explained how he tried to recruit Natalie Portman into his next project.

“Natalie said to me, ‘what do you do next?’ And I said 'I'm trying to work on a Star Wars thing," he revealed.

"Have you ever wanted to be in a Star Wars movie?' She said, 'I've been in Star Wars movies,' I forgot about those ones."

Portman played a vital role as Padme Amidala - you know, the character whose imminent death triggered Anakin Skywalker’s descent into Darth Vader.

He might want to read up on the source material before launching into the Star Wars galaxy.
