Prime Video Drops First Look At The Terrifying Orcs In The Lord Of The Rings TV Series

Brace yourselves because we’ve just received the first look at the Orcs in Prime Video’s highly awaited The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and it’ll send shivers down your spine.

IGN was the first to release stills of the terrifying creatures, who were nearly all destroyed at the end of Tolkien’s First Age during the War of Wrath.

But with the series taking place in the Second Age, the Orcs will be scattered across Middle-earth, trying to survive after the war.

Executive producer Lindsey Weber recently sat down with IGN and spoke of how the monsters would be depicted in the prequel series.

"We spent a lot of time talking about what it would mean to be an Orc in the Second Age,” he said

“It felt appropriate that their look would be different, part of a wilder, more raw, Second Age, Middle-earth, closer to where the First Age ends.

"As we meet them, they're not yet organised into armies, they're a little more scattered and they've been scavenging. So it's just a different time in their total story.”

Head of The Rings of Power’s prosthetic department Jamie Wilson also said that following the war in the First Age, the Orcs have now ‘regressed’ into smaller groups and are hiding away in the shadows.

He added: “So this is really them coming back out as they reform under a so-called new leader who's going to lead them forward.”

The first trailer of Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power was released in February during Super Bowl LVI at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

The new series will tell the story of how the rings were created and the rise of the dark lord Sauron.

Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay issued a press release earlier this year, teasing what fans could expect for the upcoming fantasy series.

They said: “This is a title that we imagine could live on the spine of a book next to J.R.R. Tolkien’s other classics.

"The Rings of Power unites all the major stories of Middle-earth’s Second Age: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Númenor, and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men.

“Until now, audiences have only seen onscreen the story of the One Ring — but before there was one, there were many…and we’re excited to share the epic story of them all.”

Oooooft, this sounds juicy, and we can’t wait.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is scheduled to be released on Prime Video on September 2.
