Tom Hiddleston Praises Marvel For Making Loki Bisexual In His TV Series

But the actor admitted ‘there’s further to go’.

Tom Hiddleston has praised Marvel for showing Loki's bisexuality in his TV show but says ‘there’s further to go’.

While speaking with The Guardian, the English actor spoke of his Disney+ series Loki and what the character’s public sexuality meant for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

“I wanted to make sure we didn’t lose the bits that people loved while doing something new. I also hope Loki coming out as bisexual was meaningful to people who spotted it,” he said.

“It was a small step, and there’s further to go. But it was definitely important to all of us.”

The character came out as bisexual in episode three of the first season during a conversation with Sylvie Laufeydottir.

Laufeydottir she asked Loki if he’d ever been in a relationship with a ‘princess’ or ‘prince’.

To which he responded: “A bit of both.”

Last year, Loki’s director, Kate Herron, acknowledged the scene's significance, saying it was ‘very important’ to convey the God of Mischief’s bisexuality onscreen.

She wrote: “From the moment I joined @LokiOfficial it was very important to me, and my goal, to acknowledge Loki was bisexual.

“It is a part of who he is and who I am too. I know this is a small step but I’m happy, and heart is so full, to say that this is now Canon in.”

Many took to Twitter, commending the director, with one person writing: “Thank you from the bottom of my bi heart. Loki is one of my favourite characters of all time. It means the world to me to have it recognised as canon in the MCU (and the bi lighting is *chef's kiss*)!”

While another fan wrote: “This means more than you could ever know. all my life i've been desperate to see people like me on screen, and the lack of bisexual representation was appalling. But now, confirming that a character i've loved for so long is just like me means the world :) THANK YOU.”

However, when Herron was asked how season two would further explore Loki's sexuality, she admitted she wasn’t sure but hoped his narrative would open ‘the door to do more stories’ in the MCU.

She told Collider: “I don't know plans for the future with Loki — I'm so focused on this story.

“But I would say that part of my thinking was, well, if it's canon and it's acknowledged, then yeah I hope there's obviously more road to travel with that aspect of his personality. And I hope it has opened the door to more stories, definitely.”

No word yet on when Loki season two will be released, but we already can’t wait.
