She's currently on a salary of around $2 million a year from her songs and concerts, as well as her many other ventures.
Macy Gray may be known across the world for her musical talent, however, this isn't her real name.
She was born Natalie McIntyre in 1967, with Macy Gray just being a stage name.
She gave herself this name after a friend of her father’s because she simply liked how the name sounded.
Her love for music began at an early age when she started to play the piano as early as the age of seven.
After graduating high school, Gray initially enrolled at the University of Southern California to study scriptwriting, however, singing remained her primary passion.
Her major breakthrough came when she signed a huge deal with Epic Records in 1998.
In the summer of 1999, Gray released her multi-platinum debut album, On How Life Is.
This album was an instant hit and fired her into international stardom.
Due to the album’s enormous success, it reached triple platinum in the US and quadruple platinum in the UK.
The most successful single on the album was I Try, which became one of the biggest hits of the year.
It was nominated for both Song of the Year and Record of the Year at the Grammy Awards.
Gray herself won Best Female Pop Vocal Performance that year, which cemented her as a pop superstar whose career has not slowed down ever since.
Over her years of fame, Gray has also worked in many films and TV shows.
Most notably she made appearances in both Training Day and the 2004 remake of Around the World in 80 Days.
