There is nothing quite like a bit of barber shop banter. While you're tidying up the scruff on your head and around your chin, you throw some jokes around with your mates, the others getting their hair done and even the barbers themselves. Chances are you feel a whole lot lighter after those chats, but, for Movember, we took it a step further, and encouraged some absolute banter kings to have some more serious conversations in the barber’s chair.

We put everyone’s fave funny lads Mates Rates to the task, challenging them to get haircuts and, most importantly, upgraded Mo’s all in the name of Movember. When we break it down, too many men are dying too young from largely preventable reasons. The world loses one man to suicide every minute, and tragically, suicide remains a leading cause of death in young men. On top of that, prostate cancer is the most diagnosed cancer in Aussie men, and testicular cancer is the most diagnosed cancer in men aged 15 to 34 in Australia.

How do we help put an end to it? Well, Movember all started with a chat between mates, which brings us right back to the barber shop. Kristo, Tom and Sammy have been friends for yours, and this week they progressed the friendship by catching up to connect... and choose each others' Moustache style before sitting down and letting the barber work their magic. After cracking a few jokes, the mates opened up on how they’ve been able to be there for each other.

“It’s about actively trying to do stuff together and being there for them beyond stuff like drinking or socialising on the weekends… You gotta be consistent in keeping the conversation going.”

This time of year, everyone’s getting into the Movember spirit. In fact, it’s a bit of a tradition for the Mates Rates boys, who first did Movember together in their first year of uni. They know that Movember is all about growing that Mo, and rallying your community to get behind your connection to cause, and help raise live-saving funds that go towards programs, resources, and pioneering global research that helps stop men from dying too young. behind your cause to help Movember raise money toward grassroots community programs, game-changing global research and everything in between.

Watch the full video below, and find out how you can get involved with Movember this year. Which Mo will you grow?
