If in doubt at a political rally, spitting a verse from Eminem's hit track 'Lose Yourself' seems to be a good thing to fall back on if the reaction to Barack Obama's rendition is anything to go by.

We were all aware the former president, 63, had a decent taste in music thanks to his annual update on what he has been listening to over the summer, but a lot of people were caught off-guard by his rapping abilities last night (22 October).

Take a look at this:

Eminem - real name Marshall Mathers - introduced Obama at a presidential campaign rally in his hometown of Detroit, with the pair throwing their weight behind Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.

The 52-year-old rapper, who recently announced he is set to become a grandfather, made an impactful speech about the importance of freedom of speech while urging people to use their vote wisely in November.

He told the crowd: "I'm here tonight for a couple of important reasons.

"As most of you know, the city of Detroit and the whole state of Michigan mean a lot to me, and going into this election, the spotlight is on us more than ever, and I think it's important to use your voice, so I'm encouraging everybody to get out and vote, please."

"I also think people shouldn’t be afraid to express their opinions, and I don’t think anyone wants an America where people are worried about retribution of what people will do if you make your opinion known," Eminem said.

"I think Vice President Harris supports a future for this country where these freedoms and many others will be protected and upheld."

Obama then headed out to join the rapper on stage while 'Lose Yourself' blasted out, before the politician decided to take his one shot, his one opportunity, to show off his musical knowledge.

The father-of-two began: "I have done a lot of rallies, so I don’t usually get nervous.

"But I was feeling some kind of way following Eminem... I noticed, my palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy, vomit on my sweater already, mum's spaghetti.

"I'm nervous but on the surface I look calm and ready, to drop bombs but I keep on forgetting..."

Obama then told the crowd: "I love me some Eminem."

A real relatable politican, eh?

Footage of the incredible moment obviously went viral in wake of the rally, and it's safe to say social media users were loving Obama's rendition.

One said: "Dude’s the coolest president we’ve ever had."

Another wrote: "Oh my God, I love this man."

A third added: "Uncle B only comes around for the special occasions, but damn, he always leaves us wanting more. I miss that man."
