Pink and Brandi Carlile deliver chilling cover of 'Nothing Compares 2 U' to honour Sinéad O'Connor

Pink revealed the late Irish singer was a huge musical influence for her growing up.

Pink and Brandi Carlile sang a heartfelt tribute of ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ as a tribute the late Sinéad O’Connor.

There was not a dry eye in the house after Pink took the stage with the rock star to honour the Irish icon at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.

During Pink’s concert, she revealed she listened to O’Connor growing up, which ignited her passion for music.

"When I was a little girl, my mom grew up in Atlantic City and I used to go down to the Ocean City Boardwalk with my $10 and I would make a demo tape," she told the crowd.

"I would make a little cassette tape and imagine it was my demo for the record company."

Among the songs on the cassette tape were O’Connor’s.

Pink proceeded to invite Carlile to the stage for the tribute.

"In honour of Sinead, and in honour of my very very talented friend Brandi Carlile, I asked her if she would come out here and sing this song with me," she said.

The two then gave a rendition of one of O’Connor’s biggest hits.

Pink told the audience after the performance: "You just never know ... what people are going through, so it's not hard to give people a smile, it's not hard to be kind, I'm learning that lesson in this lifetime as well, we can all learn that together.”

Fans were seemingly emotional by the angelic cover, as one fan wrote: “This is beautiful. My two favorite women in music, paying tribute to #SineadOConnor . Haunting and incredible."

Another said: “Lovely tribute by Pink in singing 'Nothing Compares 2 U' on the first night of the US leg of her world tour.”

A third commented: “Beautiful tribute to Sinead O'Connor. I've seen Pink live a few times. Was not at the show last night here in Cincy, but can say she puts on one hell of a show.”

While another noted: “If you don’t want to cry at work, watch this one at home. #RIPSinead.”

The Irish singer was found 'unresponsive' at her home this week, with the Met Police confirming her death is not considered suspicious.

Shortly after, her family issued a public statement: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinead.

"Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time."
