Black Mirror lovers get ready as Netflix has confirmed that a seventh series will be out next year.

The dark sci-fi anthology series, created by writer and satirist Charlie Brooker, is inspired by The Twilight Zone, and has become a fan-favourite on the platform with 27 episodes across six series, and one special.

Commenting on the news on X, one fan wrote: "For every good #BLACKMIRROR is one of the best, now season 7 coming I can't wait."

A second added: "Oh my god! Season 7!"

Notably, it seems that the seventh season will include a sequel to the season four sci-fi adventure 'USS Callister'.

"Robert Daly is dead, but for the crew of the USS Callister, their problems are just beginning,” Netflix said.

Season six landed just last year and fans got five new stories, with arguably the most epic cast yet; Aaron Paul, Michael Cera and Salma Hayek Pinault joined by Himesh Patel, Monica Dolan, Rob Delaney and Paapa Essiedu.

In the teaser clip, viewers were told: “You’ve been wondering. You’ve been waiting. You’ve been warned.”

In an interview with Netflix’s Tudum platform, Brooker said: “I’ve always felt that Black Mirror should feature stories that are entirely distinct from one another, and keep surprising people — and myself — or else what’s the point?

“It should be a series that can’t be easily defined, and can keep reinventing itself.

“Partly as a challenge, and partly to keep things fresh for both me and the viewer, I began this season by deliberately upending some of my own core assumptions about what to expect.

"Consequently, this time, alongside some of the more familiar Black Mirror tropes we’ve also got a few new elements, including some I’ve previously sworn blind the show would never do, to stretch the parameters of what a Black Mirror episode even is.

“The stories are all still tonally Black Mirror through-and-through — but with some crazy swings and more variety than ever before.”

Now, the show has become so popular that when you say the words Black Mirror, everyone knows you're not talking about an actual Black Mirror.

However, some fans are only just realising the meaning behind the show's name. Brooker has explained that the titular black mirror is simply just a screen when it's switched off.

"What I took it to mean was when a screen is off - when a screen is off it looks like a black mirror," Brooker told Channel 4.

"Because any TV, any LCD, any iPhone, any iPad - something like that - if you just stare at it, it looks like a black mirror, and there's something cold and horrifying about that.

"And it was such a fitting title for the show. I mean I don't know what else we would've called it - Spooky Technology Time? It would've been rubbish.

"I quite like the fact that people are watching it on their TV or on their laptop, or their smartphone or whatever and then as the end credits start running and the screen cuts to black, they see themselves reflected."
