An unanswered phone call onboard missing MH370 has left people furious.

A Netflix docu-series about the disappearance of Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 has left viewers infuriated after it revealed that a call from a passenger went unanswered.

It’s been just over nine years since the mysterious Malaysian Airlines plane went missing, with many questions still left unanswered after the extensive investigation.

But after watching the Netflix series, those watching at home have been frustrated by the tantalising detail which could have solved the disappearance.

The three-part series has explored several theories as to why the Malaysian Airlines plane vanished on 8 March 2014 as it flew from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to Beijing, China.

After vanishing off-grid above the Indian Ocean and failing to reach its final destination, it was presumed all souls onboard had been lost, which consisted of 227 passengers and 12 crew members.

The documentary explores several theories as investigators and the victim’s families recount the excruciating hours after the plane disappeared.

During the interviews, a couple of family members alleged they were able to receive phone calls from their loved ones after the official search began.

It was during one such scene that Jiang Hui spoke about one particular strange call.

Hui’s father had been onboard the flight and he’d gathered with others hoping for news when a little girl came running up to him claiming she was being called by her dad.

Showing him the incoming call on her phone, it immediately stopped ringing as soon as she answered.

Hui had a similar experience, saying that he’d tried to call his relative and even got a connection, but no one ever responded.

Dismissed by the Malaysian government, Hui later said the authorities claimed they did not have the technology to trace the signal.

Viewers reacted angrily, saying these calls could have led to the mystery being solved and also criticised the documentary for overlooking this key detail.

Taking to Twitter to vent their frustration, viewers said they couldn’t believe the phone call hadn’t been traced.

They wrote: “Watching that #MH370 on Netflix. I can’t believe that they didn’t trace that phone call ringing somewhere?? I mean, it’s 2014 we have great technology 9 years ago?”

Others questioned the validity of the phone call, with another adding: “Okay I just started this series and I just wanna say.. there is NO way those phone calls went through if the plane had crashed onto land, or the ocean..”

Understandably, some fans have also focused on the human cost of the unanswered phone call, saying: “I’m so upset that she received a call from her dad and showed her phone to people INSTEAD OF PICKING UP THE PHONE.”

The Netflix documentary also came under fire at the time of its release for its heavy focus on conspiracy theories, possibly at the cost of those involved.
