First trailer for Black Mirror season 7 shows sequel to classic episode

Black Mirror is back with a sequel to a classic episode

Netflix has dropped the first trailer for season seven of Black Mirror. This includes a look at the first sequel episode in the history of the series.

Previously, the Charlie Brooker-created show has been exclusively an anthology show with the episode 'Black Museum', which pays reference to prior Black Mirror episodes, being the closest thing to a sequel.

The newest series has a typically stacked cast with Emma Corrin, Peter Capaldi, Awkwafina, Paul Giamatti, and Will Poulter all set to appear.

Brooker has spoken about how prescient the series is, with last seasons 'Joan is Awful' arc coming just prior to the explosion of Chat GPT and AI.

Brooker said of the show's coincidences that came true in an interview that it starts to feel like he is 'living in a simulation'.

Check out the first trailer for the show's newest season below:

The show will be bringing back Cristin Milioti, the star of season four's now iconic USS Callister episode.

This Star Trek parody is a fan favourite, and one of the few episodes of the show which genuinely does leave room for a follow up by the end of the episode.

In the cast announcement for season seven, Brooker said: "Fans of the show will recognize the cast of a certain spaceship from one of our episodes reappearing.

"We’ve done a sequel for the first time in Black Mirror history. Normally, I kill off all the characters at the end of an episode, and I kept some of ’em alive. I’m growing as a human."

When discussing the coincidences that would lead to his show predicting real life, the creator added: "A couple of times on the show, there’s been something I’ve written and then something similar happens in the real world similar-ish.

“Narcissistically, you start to feel like, ‘This is too big a coincidence. I feel like I’m living in a simulation.’”

Brooker had previously said that the world was too bleak for more Black Mirror due to the difficulty he found in parodying the current political climate.

When asked about why that had changed, he said: "Oh, I wouldn’t take that as any sign of optimism! I’m more optimistic here in Britain, because I think we’re going to finally get rid of the government that we’ve had installed in this country like malware for years; that will probably get wiped out with the next election."

Prescient as always, Brooker said prior to the recent US election: "I don’t have a good feeling about the American election, if I’m being honest.

"There are all sorts of horrific things going on in the world, obviously. In writing stories for Black Mirror, I don’t tend to look at the news pages and go, I’ve got to do a story about this.'

"It tends to be me generally worrying out loud. Black Mirror’s continued existence is nice for me, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that I think the world is in such a healthy state."

Black Mirror season seven releases on 10 April.
