Netflix has added a gritty ITV mini-series with a star-studded cast of familiar British faces, and it’s so good fans are demanding it gets a second season.
Netflix has a deep catalogue of many of ITV’s best shows, combining the go-to producers of British detective dramas with the most popular streaming service in the world.
This includes a BAFTA-winning mini-series about Fred and Rose West, a Stephen Graham classic about a journalist infiltrating a far-right group, and a Luke Evans cold case drama.
Whilst many of their TV shows are based on real life crimes, this one is purely fictional, and utterly beloved by fans.
Starring Game of Thrones and Downton Abbey alumni, the show is called North Shore, focused on a group of British and Australian detectives being forced to work hand in hand to solve a murder.
In the process they unveil an international conspiracy and suffer from the cultural clash of being forced to collaborate.
Game of Thrones star John Bradley and Downton Abbey stand-out Joanne Froggatt both star, joined in the cast by Kirsty Sturgess, Dan Spielman, and Matt Passmoore.
With an average score of 6.8 on IMDb it got mixed reviews, however the fans that love it swear that it is one of the most underrated series around.
One 9/10 review on IMDb said it had ‘one of the best twists of all time’, saying: "The final episode has the most surprising twist of any crime/ murder mystery series since the first season of Broadchurch! Not as emotionally dramatic but still shocking!
“It seemed like just a normal procedural, that was however to me a great story and a great bunch of characters and their relationships evolving; with the backdrop of politics.”
The reviewer went on to say that, though you’ll think you know who the killer was halfway through, this gets turned entirely on its head when it’s revealed.
It was added to Netflix today (ITV) One fan took to Google Reviews, giving the series five stars and saying: “I really enjoyed this as it kept me guessing.
"Most crime dramas are too obvious and full of plot holes.
"This one was very well written and I really didn't have any idea which way it was going to go, which kept me on the edge of my seat.”
A five-star audience review on Rotten Tomatoes said the same, calling it a ‘great character driven show’.
They went on to hope for a season two of the series, something that has yet to be confirmed by ITV.
That said, if it is given a second life on Netflix – you never know what could happen.
North Shore is available to watch on Netflix in the UK now.
