It’s official; the One Piece live-action series has broken a record that was previously held by Wednesday and Stranger Things.

Netflix’s adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s anime One Piece dropped in its entirety on Thursday 31 August, and has since received rave reviews from critics and fans alike.

Season one of the show - starring Iñaki Godoy as protagonist Monkey D. Luffy - sees a young adventurer setting out on a perilous journey with his motley crew, the Straw Hat Pirates.

Their goal? To uncover a mythical treasure known only as ‘One Piece’ and thus become the King of the Pirates.

Season one of the action-adventure show consists of eight episodes, which reportedly took seven years to make it to the small screen.

In another mind-blowing statistic, each episode had an eye-watering budget of $17.27 million (£14.4million).

However, it looks as if the dedication and wild per-episode price has paid off as the Netflix series has smashed records.

One Piece smashed a record set by season four of Stranger Things and Wednesday.

Following its debut weekend, One Piece has smashed a record previously set by Addams Family-inspired show Wednesday and Stranger Things.

Upon its release, One Piece climbed its way to becoming the number-one show in 84 countries across the globe.

However, in the first weekend that Stranger Things season four and Wednesday season one were released, both shows debuted at number one in 83 countries.

So, by topping the charts in just one more country, it means that One Piece now reigns supreme.

Since the manga adaptation landed on the streaming giant last month, fans have been going crazy across social media.

One X user took to the platform and wrote: “Netflix did a very good job with One Piece, they got everything right and better.. 10/10.”

A second wrote: “One Piece (Netflix) should be on everyone’s must-watch list. Fantasy-adventure that makes your heart happy.”

“Holy s**t the Netflix adaptation of One Piece is good. Like, not even ‘Good for an adaptation’ good. Just really f**king good,” commented a third.

Elsewhere, another X user has given their gushing review: “Good morning and good day to one and only One Piece live action on Netflix. It turned out better than I expected, truly one of the best live action adaptations of a manga.”

If you’re yet to sink your teeth into One Piece, then all eight episodes of season one are available to stream right now on Netflix.
